tpms and aftermarket rims

I just took off my stock gts rims and have my aftermarket rims on. Now my question is shouldn't my tpms warning light be coming on since the sensors are on the stock tires?

Nothing has come on yet.

Also I have read that you can remove them from the stock tires and put them on the aftermarket rims but it costs something like $70 per tire t calibrate them, is this true?

What are you guys doing with it? Leaving them off or swapping it to the new tires?

so it is just a matter of time before it starts up. The only way to get rid of that is through a dealer, correct?

it takes a random amount of time for the TPMS to notice you've swapped wheels. It WILL come on eventually though.

I believe that the TPMS code can be removed by a OBD II scan. maybe look into this when you find the constant yellow warning screen annoying

I put my steels on for the winter and it took almost 400kms before the tpms warning finally came on. Makes me feel safe that if my tires are going flat I will find out a few hundred kms later.

Actually if the pressure drops in your tires its pretty quick it terms of noticing it but removing all 4 sensors from the system at once it does take some time before the system says "hey we have a problem". my experience anyway.

sensors are about $125CAD each

and will need to be recaled each time you switch the rims.

The same tpms sensors are available from Dodge dealers for about $65 Canadian incl. tax. (or where about 2 months ago) I finally get my new sensors calibrated and are working no problem The Mitsu P/N is 4250A225. If you ever have one in your hand it is also marked with Daimler Chrysler p/n 56053030AC. When i went to my local Dodge dealer they cross referenced that to a p/n 68001696AA which is the right sensor including the nut for about half the price Mitsu is asking. unfortunately mitsu still needs to use their MUT III computer system to calibrate it but if you get rims from a wheel shop instead of mitsu at least the sensors are cheaper this way.

Tpms warnings can't be defeated by OBD II scan, unfortunately you either have to have mitsu's MUT III or a Bartec Wheelrite tech 400 tool for about 1800 bucks. As you can probably guess the dash warning was severely annoying me so I did some research on it.

My car is lucky that I don't live in the US, or my dash would be a bullet hole richer on the mods list.

The damn triangle doesn't dim with the rest of the lights, it comes on every time I stop for a second and one of the doors open (pit stop, not parking). Asked dealer to kill it, he said they can't. O.o
I'm going to try something this spring, a cheap fix if it works.

TPMS
4250A225 Mitsubishi part number.
56053030AC Chrysler part number.
68001696AA Dodge part number.
Have to look into this, but I would favor turning it off instead. Thanks for the info!

I'd prefer just killing it to but its a US law to install this stupid system and make it undefeatable.

Unless a car company opts to offer a different option to the Canadian market (which mitsu hasn't) your stuck. From what i've read it's all to do with Ford Explorers having Firestone tires blow off their rims, so logically you need an expensive complicated system on a smaller japanese sedan with out Firestones or no one will be safe (idiot politicians)

Mitsu is gay for making this such an expensive fix... I'll just put up with it...I'm not buying two sets of sensors and getting them all calibrated.. Such a waste of money to me.
