Question US warranty on exported Evo X to Canada

I know this may be somewhere, but I have searched and can not find it.

I am going to buy/import a US Evo X GSR w/SSS in WW. I am currently looking at 2008s or possibly 2010.

I know that the warranty will not be honoured in Canada (period).

However, I have confirmed over the phone with Mitsubishi US that if I need warranty work, I can simply bring it back to the US.

Is this everyone else's experience, 'cause I was getting the impression that as soon as I export it all warranty is lost?

Thanks.

I have now found and looked at all of the warranty brouchures for the 2008 Evo and they seem to read that you lose all warranty when the car is "registered and operated outside of the US".

This seems to conflict with what they are telling me on the phone. The other downer is that you are paying for the warranty, only to give them an out right afterwords.

Any input on people's actual experiences would be appreciated.

When i brought my Evo 8 over they told me when i talked to them that they are not going to honour any warranty on the car.
But i heard that you can buy warranty from Mitsu Canada, buts its quite expensive. Heard this from a guy who imported a Evo 9. Worth checking out.

Thanks for the tip, however, wouldn't it just feel wrong to pay for warranty after already having paid for warranty. Honestly, if the brand new car ends up being a POS, I imagine you could just sue them based on contract. I know that no one wants to do that, but I just don't see how they can contract out of a basic warranty. There are consumer protection laws that provide for a basic amount of protection.

Oh well, notwithstanding what mitsu US said to me over the phone it seems clear from their brouchure that they are not standing behind anything.

Mitsu US is correct, you can bring back your car to the US to get warranty work. However, if you have a safety recall notice, you can get the work done in Canada. Mitsu Canada will not warranty non-Canadian vehicles or any other grey-market vehicles.

What you can do is purchase 3rd-party warranties to cover yourself over here. A lot of used-car dealers do this for all US imported cars into Canada. Ask around.
