My Evo IX Tune at English Racing

(TLDR version in the bottom for people who hates reading)

all numbers are uncorrected Dynojet and on USA Chevron 92 Octane.

Hello all,

Just wanted to share the experience i had with english racing in Camas, Washington.

I went for a clutch install initially, and said what the hell, may as well tune the car while we're at it, even though it was mostly STOCK I had dropped the car off in the late afternoon, and they had said they were going to work on it first thing in the morning.

1300hrs the next day i show up at the shop and she was ready to go for a tune! excellent.

Aaron was the tuner, he was very friendly and informative, and had all the answer i could throw at him. He also advised me with an upgrade plan for my ultimate power goal.

During the tuning process, he walked my through his tuning process run by run, advising me what he had done to make that power.

[flamesuit]
First of all, my car had an off the shelf flash by an undisclosed tuning company which was done by the previous owner, and the car supposably makes 340HP.

if you want a tune, get on a dyno.

Mod List

06 Evo IX
92 Octane Washington gas (i ran out 94 being lost in traffic)
Works Throttle body
Works Downpipe
Works High flow cat
Works Catback
ETS V2 Lower Intercooler pipe
Amsoil cone intake
Hallman Manual boost controller
Stock Fuel pump
Stock O2 housing

now some pictures! im not a pro with the camera, so dont hate : /

WARNING
failure to remove baby on board magnet could result in -300awhp reading

Initial pull, no changes, Flashed ECU by whoever.

I was informed that bone stock Evo puts down 245awhp on this dyno.

if you cant see, its 308awhp 280ft lbs @21.8PSI and its pulling timing at 6200rpm onwards. you can see by the massive faceplant of power and torque onwards.

the next run which i dont have pics off.....Aaron identified the problem and did some changes, which no MIVEC tuning or boost adjustment and he was able to have the car make 315hp/310torque.

then came MORE BOOST!! Aaron, too cool to look at the camera and smile

5 pulls later, the result!

327hp 318ftlbs of torque @ 24PSI on 92 Octane. thats +80awhp over stock with just BASIC BOLT ONS.

you may think its not much of a gain in the end, but look at the power band before and after. there was a gain of 60HP and 70ft.lbs of torque from 6250rpm onwards!!!!

I would like to thank English Racing for an awesome experience, i will definitely come back with more mods, and a 20L Jug of Canadian 94octane gas!

I hope i have swayed some of your minds to get your car dyno tuned instead of flash tuning. especially you Evo X guys!!!

TLDR Version; Dyno tune good, go get it.

comments? insults?

hahaha get moar parts = moar powah!!

ER usually team up with DO in Auburn and hold dyno day/tune down there. Its a lot closer to us so If I were you, I would plan ahead so you can make it down there for a retune. Also, you have to have a giant gerry can of 94octane man. but good for you for making the trip and doing it right!!!! enjoy the evo, im sure it pulls hella better now!

whats next for you sir? Speed Density + walbro 255 + 02 housing + cams + bigger intercooler + etc etc ?

Thanks!!

Walbro is on the way....2 weeks late.

Megan o2 housing, GSC S1, 3"core intercooler is next. S2 is a bit too aggressive for me I think.

I think with those 3 mods I can hit 370 on stock turbo.

You know you already have WORKS 269 Power Cams as part of the TR340 kit. Not sure how S1's will compare but I cant imagine there would be enough gains to justify them. Now S2's on the other hand is another matter entirely

the previous owner decided to not go with the Cosworth cams to avoid emission problems in California. but they still slapped the badge on.

that badge is coming off this afternoon, cus i think its tacky. i just need to get my lazy *** of the couch and grab some floss n hair dryer.

sorry for the confusion.

OK, ALL you Canadian Evo guys, STOP GOING TO ER!!!

Aaron is MY tuner, and the reason my car would put a whooping on you, so I don't need you douche nozzles going down there and figuring out what I've already known for over a year.

And yes, always bring jerrycans....

BTW, OP, I Aaron made 346awhp on my Evo 8 with the stock turbo, he's a stud.
