Hey Guys.

I'll be looking to purchase an EVO in the next couple months. There is very little chance Ill be purchasing in Canada as the prices for equivalents in the states are 10K lower with a relatively even dollar.

There are a number of 08's in my colors going for around 25 all over the states, which is fine for me because I don't really need a warranty (Mitsu Canada doesnt honor US warranties). I'm also seeing some new 11 GSR's going for 31-33 and im seriously considering them becuase of the whole no-tampering thing and updates over the older models.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in Canadians buying new in the states and also somehow getting major warranty work done in the states? Will the american dealers squash the warranty if you import it to canada?

Im willing to look at a 2011 WW GSR for 31 considering there are 2010 modified GSR's up here going for 40+.

Any advice on this or just advice in general on importing to canada would be appreciated =).

if i was to buy again id go down to the US..
I'll pay nearly 68k @ the 84 month mark.. if i pay it faster it'll be up to about 5000 less for my 2011 with extra warranty on paint, leather, electronics etc. + interest + taxes + fees etc etc.. i could have gotten the same car in the states for 47k brand new shipped. with no warrantys and a bank interest rate of about 10% if your paying cash then your good to go..

Turns out, by reading the thread at the top, that I have no chance for any kind of warranty if I import from the US.

compare this http://autos.aol.com/used-detail--52...volution-2011/

to this: http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Mitsubish...a/19_4862779_/

10 grand would go along ways towards any warranty work that might needs be done. HAvent heard of too many of these blowing motors or trans if you dont mod.

I modded my SRT and only ever brought it to the dealer for warranty work once in 7 years of warranty... because I let someone drive it who probably shouldnt have, and tore apart third gear.

I will never support the canadian Auto sales industry ever again, and ill encourage everyone to steer clear of any dealer so long as they continue to try to rip us off for no reason.

PS. exchange rate is at 1.04

I imported my car from the US. I got a broker to take care of all the details. Absolutly Canada won't honour a US warranty but you can always take it back over the border to get warranty work done..., that is what I hear. Personally I have not done it, but ya in importing I saved about 7K even with the import fee's (came from Florida).

You can't import brand new cars into Canada anymore. It has to be at least 6 months used and with a certain amount of milage put onto it.

I don't see anything on the RIV website that confirms this...

Not saying it isnt true, just curious if there is some article or something you could post?

Yes you can, I just bought a 11 evo mr and it is sitting in my driveway now! Dealers are not suppose to sell to you and some may refuse but most don't care because it is a sale for them. RIV does not care as long as it meets the requirements, and if you buy new you don't need a out of province inspection.

if you plan on modifying the car then you shouldnt worry about the warranty... if you plan on keeping the car relatively stock (very relatively), then warranty is definitely a good idea.

I did some maths and came up with this:

Cost of Vehicle x 1.04 = 26, 000 x 1.04 = 27040
GST: 270140 x 1.05 = 28, 392
RIV Registration fee = 204.5 (Alberta) + 28392 = 28596.5
Air-cond excise tax = 100 + 28596.5 = 28696.5
Duty = 28696.5 x 1.061 = 30341

Assuming a private sale in the states for a 2008 GSR @ 26,000, you'd pay a total of $4341 CDN to bring it across the border. If you include gas/hotel/flights for another 1000... you're looking at $5341.

Whether you guys care or not, just figured i'd post it anyway =)

if i was to do it again, i would def go across the border, you will save a ton doing this, and lets be honest, no one who buys an evo is going to keep it stock for very long

yeah i looked hard at buying one cross border when I bought a few years ago, but the used prices were still sky high then. sure there are deals to be had now. Do have a lot of warranty on mine that is probably never going to be used if i mod too much.

and if you live in Calgary dont buy a WW, there are too many here already... and some guy with a RA who has done everything he can to make it look evo.

I was wanting an RR more then the WW, just the WW was my second choice. Im going to be buying in the next month or so, and warranty is completely meaningless to me unless its brand new. Guess im on the market for 08 =).

Im seeing a few 08 GSR's for mid 30's, with a little negotiating im thinking I might be better of buying a canadian model.
