yes of course you have to cut a hole in one of your guards...else, where are you going to put the filter and pickup?? it goes directly behind the part of the plastic grill mesh that doesn't have holes in it and would be where the foglights are in non-Us lancers and evos on the driver side

cut a hole eh?...is it because theres not enough clearance behind a fender guard?..or you just cutting it to make sure you have air?

because where the filter goes there is a vertical guard in the way and you have to cut a hole to get the piping through so that the filter can sit in the location i mentioned above...you only have to cut a 4" diameter hole, or whatever is big enough for the piping to fit through

i think it's a great place to mount it. it's protected but still aloows air inflow into your engine, what else could you want?

how does the filter get wrecked when it is surrounded by all the splash guards??

also, you can get the K&N filter recharge kit from crappy tire or wherever and your filter comes out like new. the kit is cheap too only $30 or something like that.

Went down to the dealership today, needed to get a few things fixed(paint touch up, fabric peel) and to get the windows tinted.

While I was there the guy told me it would cost 400 dollars(that includes installation) to get a AEM cai put in. Getting that done for sure in a couple of months. Pretty awesome price Id say compared to other places I checked that charged well over 400 for an SRI.

a cold air one? with the pipes that came with my injen kit, you have to cut a hole in your splash guard and the filter mounts next to the tire.
