Question about Cat Back/Muffler Back
I was at my dealership last night, and they're clearing out the muffler back exhausts for '03 and below cars, for $400 CAD + tax.
Seeing as how I don't have $800 to shell out for the full Ultimate Racing Cat Back, I'm probably going to get this. It's a direct 2.5" bolt-on, matching up with the stock exhaust pipes.
I know it's not going to add any performance, and it's probably more cosmetic at this point more than anything else. At least the sound will be richer.
My question is, if I decide to go the cat back route later, would I be able to just but the piping leading up to the muffler. Is that even available? I know most places sell the entire unit.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

$400 is a really bad price for a muffler-back that does nothing for you at all except fart.
The reciept for my GREddy Cat-Back shows $200 more. And it actually adds performance, albeit small.
You probably can't buy the cat to muffler pipes from anyone, however Noyz Boyz could probably fabricate it for you for $250 or so.
Which basically means you'll have paid $650 for a muffler-back exhaust, custom pipes from the cat to the muffler, and gained no performance.
Save more and buy a GReddy, or blow your money on something worthless.

brilliant. thanks for not answering my question and telling me something i don't already know.
my question is that if i get this 2.5" exhaust, can i bolt on the other parts of a cat-back later to complete the system? lots of other cat-backs have 2.5" piping, so it'd bolt straight on and still have the same amount of flow. yes? no?
i'm basing my question on the fact that the RRM (after currency conversion, shipping, etc.) is probably almost $800, and so is the ultimate racing cat-back.

Unless it's an RRM axelback i don't think ull be able to get the same performance/flow when u decide to go full cat-back, also don't think it would be a direct bolt on.
I could be wrong though...

that's super expensive. you can get the full catback system from magnaflow for $305 US which at the exchange rate when i got it turned out to be under$400 CDN. and this system comes with mandrel bent piping which is the most efficient and also expensive for custom pipes. i've seen common prices of $45 per mandrel bend, plus pipe costs.
as for the exhaust being 2.5", i doubt it. the tip may be 2.5", but the pipes aren't. our cars come with either 1.75" or 2" (i think it's 2), so there would be no way to bolt up a 2.5" axle back to a 2" mid pipe. the magnaflow is 2.25" piping with a 3.5" tip.

why not just buy a muffler from ebay for $40 us and a connecting flange from canadian tire and have it installed still no performance improvement but you'll have a fart pipe for under $100. this way is you can't use it later then you haven't pissed away $400+.
for that exact reason that you have a fart can that a) sounds like ****, b) looks like ****, and c) may even hinder the performance of your car...if you're gonna do it, do it right
Can't understand why you would buy a half exhaust if its performance you want wait to get header back then it will make the difference. A few feet of 2.5" piping isn't gonna give you a performance difference your gonna notice. It will just make you spend $400. Hell you may like the sound of a fart pipe peeps are getting rich making for a reason. Not everyone likes the conservative cool guy look some like to be loud and obnoxious.

Where was all this feedback when I asked for it earlier? Oh well, I got the muffler, and it isn't loud and obnoxious at all. It has a very deep but subtle purr at low revs, and only begins to roar at higher revs. Not like those high whining civic ones.
Big deal, I'll just sell it later on eBay when I decide to really open things up. Thanks to everyone for the input, I sort of knew what I was getting into, but no-one really confirmed my question about adding piping down the road.
I've put it in my profile, but under "exterior" instead of "engine" because it's not doing anything for the performance.
Live and learn. Meh.

I spoke to Noyz Boyz, they said they can make a pipe to bolt onto your current axle-back, but it'll cost ya. And they don't guarentee any performance added with the piping. Essentially he said it'd be a waste of money getting custom piping, because piping for a cat-back is made with the muffler and exhaust system in mind, not after the fact.
Wow $400.00 cad for the magna flow cat back that is less than what i paid by almost $100.00. I have a magna flow kit in stock and so far no intrest. I don't know maybe when the sno is gone lol Thanks Mark
yeah most ppl aren't interested in spending money on their cars while there is still snow on the ground, but spring is just around the corner and you'll sell that thing in no time man! if it is less than your cost then maybe you should order a couple under the gb price to keep in stock
Well I found out why the cost difference my supplier here in Calgary said it was due to the low exchange rate in Feb when I bought the kit. So now the priceing is closer. And for the extra couple of bucks it's nice to have a sales guy that can come and take care of any prob's that may arise. lol If I ever sell any lol
