WTB (feeler) Evo VIII

I've been thinking a lot about picking up an Evo 8 or Evo 9 for a long while now, and a lot of the cars I can see for sale through this site are in the States.

Right now I'm in the process of upkeeping my Ralliart, once everything is done that needs to be (there's a list..) that's getting sold to pay back some student loan, and I'll be looking for another car to buy.

I've daydreamed looking through EvoM, AutoTrader and browsed Kijiji across the country for the past few months, but TBH aside from the US there really isn't much going on in the Canadian 8/9 world in comparison to the X market.

Before I start thinking about bringing one up past the border, I'd like to see if anyone has an Evo 8 for sale.

- Preferably from BC, AB, SK, or MB. Any further east and I'll be inquiring about your winter driving habits and salted roads/ocean air.

- Leaning toward a price of about ~18,000 CDN, have no issues with a sale price below that, but probably wouldn't have any problems getting financed for a tad bit higher, but keep $18,000 in mind..

- Not very picky about the color, though white, silver, or red would be preferred (I used to do a lot of detailing, black is hit or miss depending on it's condition, and my twin bro has a yellow car, trying to avoid that minor similarity..)

- Looking for something closer along the lines of being lightly modded or can still very well be used a daily driver.

- Preferably under 85,000 miles, but higher mileage is fine - as long as the t-belt/bs-belt and water pump service has been done and the tranny/diff are in good shape (no whines, major grinds, etc).

- Not looking for any rebuilt or salvage titles.

If you can provide pics in topic that's fine, feel free to PM me what you have, or if you know someone who's in the market to sell their Evo.

Thanks

ttt

There's only one IX for sale here and it's fairly up there in price..

Anyone?

T-belt and clutch on the RA are being traded out for new this week, then new struts and springs hopefully next weekend.

After that, will begin seriously looking for a replacement car *hint*

there are a few FS in and around Toronto, some asking up to $30k

check autotrader

Personally I would recommend an X, the active diff makes quite a big difference if you wanna drive it like it was designed to be driven.

^ I had a couple saved in 'My Garage' on the autotrader app, but it looks like those expired. I'll go have another look. The IX here is listed for 25g.. it's pretty clean and fairly close to stock.

One of my friends has a hook up at a dealer for a X GSR coming in on trade (around Dec), might consider looking into that when available.. from what I hear the X's handling is beyond the VIII/IX

How do you like your X? From an MR to a GSR?

(There's also a BBY listed in QC, kicking it still in autotrader, but never heard back from the guy haha)

Both have their merits

I had the MR for 3.5 years, really enjoyed it. the transmission is incredible but at the end of the day a part of me still yearned to have a full manual.

I went in for an oil change, my dealership had a GSR w/ handling package, we cut a deal and the rest is history

The Evo 8/9's were the most raw Evolutions produced IMO, if you want the feeling of driving a light weight rally car/go cart/performance vehicle. If you really want ACD, get an Evo IX in any trim and it will have ACD equiped.

I have driven an X, VIII and a IX and they are all great cars, but the feeling of raw potential is found in the VIII/IX's for sure. There is a reason most of the IX's for sale in Canada are selling for more than X's, due to demand and supply.

I posted a close to stock IX SE here for sale from a member for $25k, with around 75k miles 115k kms, which sold in about a week or two and it was a great deal. Expect to pay around $26-30 for a IX in good condition (minimal mods) or $18-25k for an VIII in good condition (minimal mods) in Canada.

The best deal I've seen is this one right now, the mods alone are worth well around $6000 ($2600 Volks, $1300 for a JDM rear, $1500 for JDM headlights, $500 JDM tails, $500 rexpeed CF lip, skirts etc.).

Good luck!

That is definitely a good price for that car... thanks for the link. I'm surprised it's been listed as long as it has been haha.

I'm attracted to both the 8/9's and X's for different reasons... Definitely juggling which gen to zone in on. I can agree with your statement, I got to drive my friend's 8 RS for a week (272's, intake, exhaust) and there wasn't one moment I didn't get a kick out of it. Hopped behind the wheel of a X GSR and it felt, aside from more comfortable/modern, hm... refined?

I'm like 85% done getting the RA tuned up, struts/springs need to go in still (USPS has those locked up in LA, figures..) and fairly sure I need to do control arm bushings in the rear, that's peanuts. Anticipating being able to slap a FS sign on it and get this ball rolling before winter really moves in (snow already started..)

Get the X. Finding a good condition 8 or 9's are near impossible at 18k. All the good ones are 25-30k and at those prices, you're looking at a low milage X. Older evos do feel more raw, but you'll have a much easier time finding a X. If you must go older gen, import it yourself.
