Nice combination - COBB intake & AP

Picked up the intake recently from COBB in Austin. My wife and I installed it in 25 minutes. On the 2012 model you must also remove the stock air box bracket to use the hole for the main intake bracket bolt included in the kit. So far, so good. Great sound and throttle response... More power, too. Updated the maps for 93. Thinking of what our next mod should be...

Exhaust would be a great addition to your set up. I am undecided what to run a 3.0" Dual or 3.5 Dual. Any input would be great.

Thanks Steve,
I hear different things from different tuners. Some say downpipe and high-flow cat are enough for stage 2, and some tuners say you have to get the whole cat-back to make a difference. Others say the only real restriction is in the stock cat.

They are all right. Yes, any stock exhaust piece will become some sort of restriction when compared to an aftermarket exhaust. How much of a restriction is a different story. I have only seen 2 customers damage their turbo with just a test pipe setup. I am not sure if it is due to the build up of back pressure or them hot rodding the car like no other.

Stage1+SF 93 Octane - For 2012, it is still beta, so you'll have to check the map notes on the other years for descriptions.

Before I bought my car, I tested a stock GSR, and then a full COBB stage 2 MR. The dealership I bought from (Don Herring in Plano) had the stage 2. Actually, Don Herring Jr. himself took me for a spin in the MR (being a huge Evo enthusiast). When I drove off the lot, I drove off with the AP. Don himself loaded the maps on the car. When I bought the car in August, I also bought their extended warranty since it covers stage 2 if I choose to go there. I've essentially never owned a stock car. Full stage 2 is just wicked btw...

I can say my experience with stage 1 map stock vs. stage 1 and COBB intake was really good. I also noticed my fuel economy went from dismal to just bad. I really noticed the BOV noise and the throttle response. I think you will enjoy it.

From my experience the AP is easy to use (both hardware and software). A lot of tuners also seem to sell it and use it, too.

Another advantage I have is that I work close to COBB headquarters (like ten minutes away). When I step in the front door, I talk to the customer service guys directly. When I ask about upgrades, they go to the back pull out the boxes and show me the parts. My experience with COBB has been great. They are, by the way, very aware of the issues with having only beta maps for recent years and models. I can say having talked to them in person, that they are all very intent on releasing the updates soon since they seemed to imply that they have solved the MR shifting problems. My understanding is that they needed to start from scratch to understand the issues. These guys are very intent on quality, answer their phones right away, and are knowledgable. I can't speak for open source, but it is nice to be able to email folks my logs when I feel I have a concern.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you still have questions.
