Timing Question

Hey Guys,

I was doing some logging on my X and I'm picking up 2 counts of knock or so when I come into boost arouns 10-14psi. My AFRs are usually 11.8-12.2ish by this point. And the car is seeing 8-9* of timing. I was comparing with some OTS stage 2 maps, and it would appear that if I was running one of Cobb's maps, I would be around 13-14* of timing at this point.

My mods are a turbo-back, grimmspeed ebc right now. Is it possible I'm running too little timing here? I pull timing and it makes no difference... Should I try to increase it, or is this partial-boost knock just very common? I know my buddy's X was doing it back in the day too when he was using ECUFlash.

What is typical timing at full boost on a stock turbo? How about spoolup? Anyone have any logs/timing maps they would care to share in addition to helping solve my problem/questions?

Thanks!

whats your fuel? ....did you picked up some knock on a multiple runs or on only one.....it can be the road..can be a lot of false knock...because from what i know...8-9 degrees even on 91oct while spooling up is not a lot!!! anyway it ALWAYS DEPENDS ON THE TUNER.

im running stupid advance timing almost everywhere on my timing map...91oct fp red. i usely ignore the knock when its not at WOT.....if your fuel and timing map looks good obviously.

i would say try doing a couple of runs.....to see if the knock is always there....if its there on every log...its real knock...so you might want to dig in!!!

btw cobb maps and all these BOLT-ONS maps are pretty conservative :-p

I'm running 93 oct from the same Citgo gas station all the time. I'll have to do multiple logs and see. I'm confused about the timing though because when I had a 10:1 compression 2.1L build with my 35R, I was being told that 3-4* at peak boost was a lot of timing on my IX....

3-4 is a lot of timing on peak boots with a GT35 on a 2.1 and high compression. That's a LOT of cylinder pressure for pump gas. 8-9 degrees isn't much on your current setup though. Try a different station that has "good" gas and see what happens. Even the same station can get different batches.
