Do I just suck at dragracing or is my car slow as *****?
I have a 2005 GSR with a Hallman MBC set to 20psi. I took my car to the dragstrip a week or two ago wanting to just get an idea of what it trapped, fully expecting something in the 100+mph range.
With all the stories of clutch issues on here, I didn't want to launch at all. The first run I took off at around 2k and ran a 14.7 at 99.5mph. The 60 ft was like a 2.6 or something. Even without a launch I was expecting something better than that.
Frustrated at how well the other Evo guys were doing, I said screw it and decided to launch my car. I tached up to 5k and was bouncing off the limiter and then realized that the staging lights weren't even coming down. I decided to let off until they started. As soon as I let off the gas, the lights came on
I quickly tached up to 5k again but ended up slipping the clutch too much. The clutch must have gotten too hot as it slipped all the way thru 1st, then slipped all the way thru 2nd, and didn't catch until about 70-75 mph in 3rd. I ended up running a 15.9 at 98.5 mph
The 60ft was like a 2.7xx
All my friends who came to cheer me on left at this point...
I let my car cool down for about 15 mins or so and took my next run. I launched at about 4k with a quick slip and got a 1.9 60ft. I must be the slowest shifter but I really don't know how I can do it any faster. I ended up running the following:
60: 1.989
330: 5.709
1/8: 8.860
MPH 79.88
1000 11.561
1/4 13.823
MPH 99.30
I can see why my ET would be slow because my launch wasn't that great, but what's up with the trap speed?
Do I suck or is my car running like poop?

One point to note is that your 1/8th-mile MPH is just under 80. My 1/8th-mile MPH was barely above 80, so that seems to be in the right area, but I picked up 24mph in the 2nd 1/8th while you only picked up 20. Did you shift to 5th, and if so, did you miss or botch any of the later shifts (3-4/4-5)?
BTW the stock clutch doesnt like being burned too much.. doesnt take much to kill it... with my 03 gsr i have to launch @6500 or so .. (Not Stock ) so wit yours try 6000 and as soon as you feel it rolling forward dump it.. and the faster you shirft the more momentum you keep.. i didnt launch with mine and shifted like i was sunday driving.. and ran a 13.7@105 with get this a 2.3 60' should be something like high 11's or there abouts if i dump it.. maybe lower with the alky

You are probably shifting too early during your run. The next time you go run the car all the way to 7400 rpms before you shift. That will put you in the primary power band for your run. I used to shift at 7k even and would only get runs around 13.2 at 103 then I started shifting at 7400 and now I get 12.9's at 107.

The 1.989 60' does suck, but the time in my sig is with only a 1.92 60' in an MR with no mods, so you can make the comparison. Unless your are at a really high altitude, then something is wrong. Either you can't drive, your MBC is messed up somehow, you're at a really high altitude, or all of the above in some combination or another.

I didn't botch the 3-4 shift and I didn't shift to 5th.
I am really pretty confused about the whole MBC setting thing but here's what it looks like on my Defi Dseries guage:
1st and 2nd are really too short to look at the boost guage. 3rd gear punch spikes to 20-20.5, and tapers to about ~17.5 after 5500. 4th gear punch spikes to about 20 and settles down to about ~18.75 or so. 5th gear holds 20-21.
I know I'm not a great dragracer but that trap has me worried.

On a botched launch due to the 5k rev limiter messing me up, I got a 2.44 60', missed my 2-3 shift, then accidentally hit my brake after the 3-4 shift (clunky shoes), yet still ran 13.8@100.8mph. That was perhaps the most embarassing and awful run of my life, but you see that I still broke 100mph with no mods in 70-degree weather at a higher altitude after making 3 ugly mistakes. Basically, your 05 should be topping 100mph on EVERY RUN unless you completely and utterly screw up.
You said you are shifting at 7k...I think that is too early for two reason: 1) the car continues to pull hard to redline, and 2) the higher you go in one gear, the higher your rpms will be after shifting to the next gear, which means you'll be in the meat of the powerband at higher HP levels. This doesn't mean you should rag it to 7500 in every gear, but maybe 7200-7300 (I know it's hard in 1st and 2nd).
As for the MBC, I dunno. I thought the point of an MBC was to keep the boost from tapering and/or raise the boost. Your boost should be maintaining at 20-21 all the way through every gear. I don't know why it drops off so far in 3rd and 4th, but I still wouldn't expect that to lower your mph so much. In stock form, it tapers in every gear, so you shouldn't be any worse than stock. I suggest you do a few runs in stock form withou the MBC to make sure the car is running OK. If you get the same MPH or less, then I would think maybe something was wrong with the car from the factory. Occasionally, there are some that just don't have as much HP from the factory, but that can be evened out with proper tuning (flash, etc).
