Old or new model? The old model would hold 45psi on my Eclipse back in the day, they are hard to come by now. How about the new one?

Id like to hear more about the whole wastegate setup thing. I have a .7 bar spring in mine so I was stuck at 25.5psi. I have a stock motor for now so I will only run 30psi or so next time Im at the track (After I switch the spring) but I dont know which spring i should buy for one thing and I am curious what the difference of the side port and top port on the wastegate. What is the difference and what spring should I probably buy to hold 35-38psi but still be able to lower it to 20ish for pump gas I was thinking the 1.2 spring or whatever the closest is I can get to 1.3 but I doubt that will hold over 35psi which will probably be fine for me at least for now.

According to the turbo experts at ATP, they recommend using the stiffest spring in order to achieve the your desire boost pressure on pump gas w/o boost control. For your setup, a 1.4-1.5 bar springs would be optimal. This will give you a good 23-30psi to redline w/o taper.

The side port on the wastegate uses pressure to open it, while the top port uses pressure to hold it down.

So in other words you need an electronic boost controller to use the top port I assume?

Right now i have zero taper at 25.5psi with the .7 bar spring. I will be getting a new spring tomorrow so I guess I will try a 1.4bar. I believe this would make the lowest boost 20.5psi or so and the highest possible around 40psi. Am I correct with this?

Also, I have heard stories about people not putting thier Tials back together right after changing the sping... is there any special info I should know before I swap the springs?

Your lowest pressure willbe ~20.5psi w/ a 1.4 bar springs. My GT30R doesn't go to 40psi so I can't tell you for sure if it will enough, even though I think you could spike to 40psi.

Make sure you clamp the wastegate down really well when removing the top of the wastegate. You don't want to rip the threads out of the flange. Also, when re-installing it, becareful not to clamp the diaphragm into the flange.

I run the old one and it holds boost very well. I never ran 45psi though, but you have and if worked on your DSM, so it should work just as good at controlling boost on your EVO. The new EVC EZ should be just as good as the old one or even better.

Starting on page 6 are various upper/lower port wastegate solutions.

Curt,

Why not try the gm solenoid or apexi/greddy solenoid and boost thru the AEM EMS, if your still using that EMS? Also, you could set the wastegate feedback up and be able raise boost via Vehicle Speed or RPM, nice traction control feature.

Someone post a link to get one of these solenoids, thanks!

The apexi solenoid you can buy from horsepowerfreaks.com, it is the same exact solenoid that greddy uses for the profec b spec 2. Unfortuneately it is probably still on backorder at the moment, not sure. I am using my solenoid from my profec b, due to the fact it has threaded bodies so you could hook up -4 AN lines to it.

The GM you can get from you local GM parts counter. They originally came off of a GMC typhoon or cyclone. The part number recently changed, but I believe it is:

G.M Boost control Solenoid part# 1997152
G.M Pigtail for the boost solenoid part# 12102747

BTW, are you going to St. Louis Nopi event this weekend? Also, I have a wastegate feedback setup for vehicle speed from a Supra that I was going to start tuning with if you are interested?

the GM Boost solenoid and pigtail from GMPartsdirect should work pretty well, its also costs around $30 shipped.. Not a bad deal at all. The Perrin is also nice.. the GM solenoid has one port thats Normally open, the other port is normally closed (it has a foam filter on that side) so you should be able to use it to control the wastegate.

I dont think he welded his Tial shut... I would assume he would have welded the stocktubo's wastegate shut in order to hit the 10 with it due to thier boost taper problem. I could be wrong though I dont know.
