Question 03 EVO 8(w/ mods) vs. 05 STi(Cobb stg 3)

Ok, the track is opening here in VA soon and I have my second invite to race(the first being a stg 1+srt4. So I thought Id come here to see how everyone thinks Ill do. The car(challenger) is a 2005 WRX STi and hes got a cobb stg 3. I did a little research and found out they make ALOT of power and are very fast. I have the following mods: hks 272s, fidanza camgears(-4, -1.5), aem short ram, injen downpipe, espelir cat back w/ cat delete, koyo racing radiator, turbosmart mbc@ 22psi, mail in dynoflash, walbro 255, turbo xs utec(newest mod, havent got it tuned yet). I will have a 20g-9 on order and an smc alky kit and o2 housing/ dc sports mani, motor mounts, ACT Clutch/flywheel, and bf goodrich eagle f1s(and a new set of brembos to slow me down ). I havent been to the dyno, but im getting dyno tuned after i put in those parts. How does everyone think I will do?(vs. him, times, etc.). Thanks!

off topic; but when the track opens we should plan a trip to the track I know a few other evos in hampton roads that want to take their evo to the track. As far as the srt4; race phillip's car if you beat him then you should pretty much beat any srt4 with the stock turbo. He has raced pretty much anything from stage 0-2, full exhaust, mbc, fmic, and some sort of fuel management. I dont know much about the cobb stages for the sti.

definately! phillip has the 50trim, right? well, hes making 370 hp, well, Im hoping for 400+ with my setup. The Cobb stg 3 is like 420whp. But let me know if you go, I will definately be there.

phillip is the s/c rsx(right around 300whp). He is trying to find one with an upgraded turbo to race now. Either way if your running the srt4 at the track you should have no trouble.

I think that if you learn to launch your car right you will definately be in there. But remeber the #1 mod is the driver mod. At the strip all the mods in the world aren't going to get you down the track if you don't launch just right and shift just right.

Good luck but you will have a beast of a car, I feel for the other guys!!!!

this is the stg 1 and 2, from what i hear its supposed to be in the are of 375-400hp. I think he has a couple of other things. His friends say hes at over 400whp but he personally told me hes never been to a dyno. So, I dont know.

Don't worry about it! I love the EVO and the STi but for some reason the EVO responds a little better to mods.

It sounds like you or they are confusing HP with WHP. The website only claims 345HP/385TQ with stage 2, and that's with a VERY GENEROUS correction for drivetrain loss. The true power at the wheels for Stage 2 was only 277whp/316wtq, so for Stage 3 to be putting down 400whp, that would have to be one HUGE turbo with a TON of extra mods in only one stage. I'm thinking that your buddy's STi only has an estimated 400whp, and that's while using a 20% drivetrain loss. If you can drive, I think you could beat him now. After the 20g-9 and all that stuff, you won't lose unless you skip a few gears.

that sounds correct about the stage 2, there is a stage 2 running around here in vabeach that dynoed a few months ago at 290whp and 301 wtq.
