Clutch: Not for 1/4 Mile but.........

Yes I've searched.

My sport is autocross and I'm looking for a clutch that will improve my starts.

I have found that a little clutch slip produces the best starts but the stock clutch starts smelling really bad. What clutch do you 1/4 mile guys recommend that will take a little slipping and give me great launches? The car won't be over 400 hp.

I have a Pro Solo coming up in May and I just know I'll toast the stock one. Pro Solo is a Christmas tree start with about a 300-400 foot straight before we turn off to mirror image AX courses. The first car to the finish wins just like drag racing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

ACT Street disc, "Heavy duty"! I am at or above 350awhp and I cut low 1.6 60ft times consistantly all day. Great clutch awesome for normal driving too.

Nate,

Thanks. I like to buy from forum vendors. Who do you recommend?

Tilton Organic/Cerametallic twin is lightweight and will allow you to do the launches you are searching for without slip. Your car will rev faster with the lightweight unit giving you more than just good starts, but will transfer more power with the reduced weight.

We have these in stock!

You should not drop the pedal on any clutch, including stock. All you will do is bog the motor.

I misinterpreted the post above which said, "...launches you are searching for without slip..."

I realize now that you most probably meant that this clutch has a longer life than the OEM, and can handle the abuse of clutch-slip launches.

I have teh tilton in stock also, but I do not think its necessary for someone with under 400whp not looking to drag race. The ACT or the exedy twin disc would be perfect. I'd probably go with the twin disc as it will probably offer a little quicker shifting. Thanks for the plug warrtalon!!

Why would you recommend the Exedy twin disc, but not the Tilton? The Tilton would be better than the Exedy for AutoX, as it is smaller diameter than the Exedy. The smaller diamater Tilton has a lower inertia which will improve engine acceleration and deceleration, which desired in AutoX. The lower inertia Tilton improves shifting characteristics. In addition, the hydraulic release bearing assembly included with Tilton is quite an improvement over the stock pull-type mechanism.
