1st time drag racing EVER!

i've never been into drag racing, always done autox & road courses but i figured i'd give it a shot. i had a great time considering the weather sucked @ Bandimere (6000 ft alt. btw!), it was all trailered muscle cars and i only got 2 runs in in 10 hrs time.
my mods are TBE (catless), MBC, Dynoflash custom tune & JDM MR DV. i was running 1/4 tank of 91oct & 1/4 tank of 104 and boosting 23-24 psi.

run #1
r/t-.412
60'-2.827
330-7.098
1/8-10.447
mph-74.56
1000-13.277
1/4-15.598
mph-98.59

run # 2
r/t-.161
60'-2.328
330-6.402
1/8-9.742
mph-73.17
1000-12.551
1/4-14.871
mph-98.56

i think with some more practice w/ the tree, launching and a better 60' my times will improve. any feedback?

Your 60' times are really high. Lowering them alone with get you a night and day difference on your times. I'd imagine your shifting could greatly improve also. More practice and you should have potential to hit high 12's.

You must be bogging really bad. Are just dropping the clutch? What RPM are you launching at?

I'll teach you how to do it next time, Shawn. The 98mph worries me a bit, but I think we can get that to 103-104 with a real launch maybe, then you can do some mid 13s.

if its your first time, espicially with an AWD car, dont sweat it. it takes practice

on my 1st run i wasn't prepared for the lights to move so fast, so i launched it @ 3000 rpm (by slipping the clutch) and bogged down.
the 2nd time i was more prepared, but still didn't get the launch i wanted. i opted not to use the launch control set by Dynoflash until i got more of a feel for everything going on, ie; track, tree and how the car behaved.
i honestly think with some more runs i would have cut into those times, but by 7 pm i was exhausted both mentally & physically. last i heard the sport compact class didn't actually run until 11pm, and then it was rained out.

Practice makes perfect. I am not particularly fond of the launch control either.

Wow, I thought I was bad.........13.5sec @ 106mph. The only mods I have is TB exhaust. Now, I don't feel too bad.

Not only will practice make it better, but remember your at a high altitude. I'm sure Warr can tell you. The higher the altitude, the generally slower ets you'll see. When I first got to racing mine, I ran a 16.1(I know, I know). That was bone stock. I bogged REAL bad and missed second gear. Plus I was shifting at 6700. After a few passes I was down to 13.4 @ 102. Your launch is what will make or break you I found. You need to realize that the clutch will "engage" a lot higher when your winding up the engine for a launch. When your just cruising around town you feel it sooner because the flywheel doesn't have as much inertia. When your winding it up to 5k the flywheel just rips through the plate and needs more clamping force to grab. Once you find that spot, I felt it was a matter of letting the car push you off the clutch. If you bring your foot off the clutch as the car launches allowing the Gs to push you back it works well, for me at least. Dont let off too slow or you'll just burn up the clutch. You need to let off fast but not dump it. Keep practicin, you'll get it. And don't let anyone else discourage you, this isn't an easy car to race, especially if your not used to AWD, small engines and turbos.

You aren't at 6000' elevation, so there's no comparison really in terms of trap speed.

Your 60' is about 0.6 - 1.0 seconds slow for your respective mods and recreational drag ability. Your ET's however are about 1.8 - 3.0 seconds slow so not only launching but something else is off i.e., shifting or engine/drivetrain mechanical failure.

Let someone else with an Evo drive it to see if it's you or something else is what I would say.

With those mods typical at sea level would be like:
1.8 60'
1/8 ET 8.1
1/8 MPH 84

I have no idea what 5000' would be but it would be a lot slower
