Popped My Track Cherry

first time ever at the track. not too thrilled with the results. had problems all night in both lanes with rolling after staging. as soon as i would take my foot off the brake, i would move, then have to back up. tried using the e-brake once, and ended up hurting myself more than anything. ended up just keeping my foot on the brake as long as possible. never could get the revs up to where i wanted them, hence the horrible 60' time. just looking for some feedback to see if i'm being overly harsh on myself. all runs done on straight 93 oct. with all season tires

Wow you should at least be low 12's and with some practice 11's.

Wow, something is seriously wrong. Your car has cams and a GT30 and your still only trapping 109? What kind of tune do you have done on it? Maybe a boost leak? You seem to be loosing alot of power somewhere, we just need to find out where.

Hows your clutch holding up?

clutch seemed to slip a lil bit towards the end. boost leak...i peaked at 24.x, then dropped a lil to 22 or so, wasn't really paying too much attention. the tune with the Xede was all done by the previous owner. all mods were on the car when i bought it. don't know anyone around here with the vishnu software. could go to ams, but they're pretty booked.

You definitely need a professional shop to look at that. It was probably not a good idea to buy an Evo with all that stuff on it already. You're about 100whp below where you should be, although this is a common occurrence with RNR turbo kits.

I'm not a fan of Vishnu nor his Xede, but I know that this is not a Xede-related issue, although it's possible that the tune is off. I'd recommend talking to Vishnu and maybe sending your Xede map to them for examination.

the reason i bought it like this is because i would not have the cash to do the modding on my own, or the knowledge to install any of the parts since i am not too mechanically inclined or knowledgable. i have talked with AMS on getting a dyno and tune. the were booked a few months out, which didn't work for me at the time. but i will be calling them again soon. i just thought doing all this on 93 oct, that with a better 60' time and getting her down to low 12's, that it would be close to what would be expected. but it's seems as if that isn't the case

i know that most people try to stay away from already modded cars. the person i bought the car from, never raced or even launched the car. it only had 10k on it when i bought it this past february. it was very well taken care off

oh wow i just looked at the mods... i ran low 12's at 109 with exhaust...

you need to get this thing tuned asap!!! you should be making way more power.

tuning is the problem for sure. sounds like the guy put all that stuff on and called it good.

Well you should be well into the 11's with that setup and trapping 10+more mph. Im not all to familiar with the turbo but I do know that there is a problem somewhere. It would probably be wisest to take it easy with the car till you get it figured out.

well, like i said. the guy didn't beat on it, so the stock clutch served him well. as for me. there won't be any more times at the track. i'd like to use up the stock clutch before going and spending $2k on a clutch if this one still works. looks like i will be calling AMS to get an appointment for a dyno and tune then as well

change your myspace from 400hp evo to 280hp evo until you get it fixed =) your trap speed shows 280hp.

With those mods you should be making good power - even with the RnR turbo kit that apparently for some unknown reason, "sucks."

I agree with 06MR, you should be low 12s/high 11s with those mods (even with a high 60'.) 60 foot times could be better, 1.9-2.0 isn't that great, but even then you should be trapping higher than 109.

I'd check on your tune, that's likely where the problem lies.

He didn't beat on it? You mean he had no power whatsoever after spending about 10k on mods. He think was luckily able to sell it to someone who didn't know any better. There's no way the stock clutch should hold up with that kit when it's making the proper power.

Fellas,

Quit the bashing. I sold him the car. I never raced the car and never dynoed the car. You can review all my posts on this forum related to my car and my experiences. AMS installed the cams, head bolts and turbo kit. All other parts were installed by me. The car was tuned by me with the Xede. Since I never took it to the track or dynoed it, I can't say that any part in underperforming. I ran the car between 21 and 22psi daily. For one week, I put some race gas in and tuned my race map with boost at 28psi. Very little knock and low 11 AFRs across the board. Could the car use a dyno tune? Yes. When I got the car there was no AWD dynos in the area. AMS installed theirs while I was in the process of selling. No point in trying to break the car. The stock clutch held fine for me. Obviously the car was not abused due to the clutch holding fine. The most abuse my car had seen was Big Al driving it when I had a Dynoflash on it. My goal was to have a fast car with potential to be wild while having ultimate drivability. I have been by Chris side since the sale of the car to help him with any issues. I have helped many people with How to's and took apart my practically new car 3 years ago to prove that there was no magic gasket. He got a great car at a great price. It was hard to let go, but I wanted to try something different. I longed for a street driven project car, not a full out race car. All said and done, if AMS finally is able to tune the Xede or if Shiv ever does a dyno day there, Chris should get it tuned. Just for peace of mind.

Chris
