What is up with Fontana (California Speedway)?

Ok is it just me or has Fontana become the new slowest drag strip in Southern California. Ever since they switch locations people have just been pulling some miserable times. I went there yesterday and ran just some miserable times and traps for my mods. My best time was a 13.42@102.42MPH w/ a 1.82 60ft. I am not stock I have TBE, Drop In Air Filter, MBC, and Tuning Technologies Tuning and to top it off I was running 100oct. Seriously I ran similiar if not better times stock at Famoso. Now I could say my car is not making the power it should be, but it is, I feel the difference, the car is much quicker than it was stock, it's not even a comparison. (I've also tested this out with my friends Cobra w/ intake) Also there were a lot of disappointed faces there yesterday. One guy had a white IX GSR and claimed to run a 12.6 @ LACR (which is a pretty slow track also) but could not better 13.1@108MPH at Fontana. Honestly I don't know what to say, but I'll never race Fontana again.

To test out this theory I shall hit up LACR this Friday, and see the differences. LACR is much higher elevation and all around a sh*tty track, but if I run similiar or better times there, then Fontucky has some explaining to do.

To be continued...

I went to the new track just last week to watch my buddy compete in the Summit Bracket Races and his car has also slowed down. He pointed out to me that after the 1/8 mile mark the track seems to go "uphill". Many of the racers were complaining about that factor according to my friend.

BTW, if you're going to head up to LACR call ahead of time to find out about the wind conditions. I was just there yesterday and they only allowed us to run a 1/8 mile. The winds have been very strong and dust was very heavy at the top end of the track. The locals say that LACR has been running a 1/8 mile more frequently because of the wind conditions. It sucks because I really wanted to see what my 1/4 mile trap speeds were with my new mods.

Thanks that could help explain some things and also the strong head winds at Fontana certainly didn't help either. Man that sucks about LACR, man the drag strip conditions in SoCal is just pitiful. I can't wait till Mopar Drag City opens up next year. I'll be sure to give LACR a call.

Also there were atleast 20 other EVOs there and atleast 20 STis/WRXs and nobody is posting times, I believe because a lot of us were pretty disappointed. Even Muscle cars were having issues, talked to a bolt on 05 GTO owner, best time 13.6@100MPH.

There was strong wind yesterday as you know that. But most of the evos did good (12.x) and better than most cars. I was running the same times as I was previously (12 flat 123mph).
Yeah! For some reasons, I like the old Fontana better.

With Fontana you can never show up late. You have to get there between 6:00 to 7:00 A.M for your best chance to get in. I'll be there bright and early on the 28th. I'm curious how my times will be. Last time I was there I ran 12.70's@108 with a bad shifting clutch. I'm looking forward to see how the new track will treat me now that I have a new clutch and 23 ft lbs of extra torque.

There is a thread in the western members area of evom too.

Don't get dissapointed with your times, the DA was 3100 yesterday meaning that ALL cars were running slow like if you would have been at 3100ft above sea level.

Best bet is to get in on a private track rental or a test-n-tune for an organized event like the pontiac nationals, or summit bracket racing event.

Wow, looking at the thread it seems that a lot of EVOs weren't having as many issues as I was having, seems like they were running fine. Not great, but atleast hitting 12s. This is kind of sad for me. I probably am the problem, here is my time slip data, if anybody could analyze and see what I am doing wrong I would really appreciate it.

Stock-
60- 2.013
330- 5.695
1/8- 8.767
MPH- 82.46
1000- 11.442
1/4- 13.657
MPH- 102.37

Now (TBE, Filter, MBC, Tune, and 100oct)
60- 1.826
330- 5.457
1/8- 8.547
MPH- 79.16
1000- 11.218
1/4- 13.432
MPH- 102.42

Mike, Your car runs too good for those times. Im sure with a little more time behind the wheel youll get it down.

I have raced at the new Fontana track twice and had good results both times. One key thing is the surface prep. Its nowhere near as good for larger events vs street legal drags. My launches were way more consistent and manageable with the track prep for BOTI at Fontana this year vs the SL drags.
