Question My First 1/4 Mile Experience - Good or Bad?

I'm not a newcomer to drag racing, but this was the first time I ran my Evo at the track. From what I can tell, my results are below average.

Best Run --- Lauched at 4000 RPM
13.154 @ 104.77 MPH
1/8 Mile: 8.459
60': 2.055

Second Run --- Launced around 6000 RPM
13.158 @ 104.04
1/8 Mile: 8.506
60': 2.109

The reason I believe these numbers to suck is that a stock Evo IX should run about 13.3 @ 105, and my car has a few mods.

I have a Apexi GT DP, Greddy Ti Catback, Ultimate Racing 3" HF Cat, Walbro 255 fuel pump and an email ECUflash from Jestr.

Maybe I am missing something, but shouldn't my car be quite a bit faster? Granted I could have launched better but I still feel like my car should have a higher MPH as well as a ET in the high 12s at least.

When I flashed my ECU with the image provided by Jestr, I did not notice ANY difference at all in how the car performed. I was expecting to feel a little difference, so maybe something is wrong there.

I had a turbo jetta before and when I reflashed that ECU I could EASILY feel the difference. Judging by my track times, I'd say that my car isn't any better than a stock.

your 60ft can be alot better. just practiuce if you get a good launch like a 1.8 then you will make 12s easy.

how did you launch ? just dump it?

i think you are suppose to rev it at about 5500-6000 not hold it. then slip it a little

How much boost are you running?

Like ApexVIII said, as you are right now.. a 1.8 60ft would net a 12 second pass.

the 06 MR has the dual stage set at 5k... did you change that? When you come off the line to you drop out of boost and lag back up or is it your reaction time thats off.

u for sure need to start using launch controll, Even if JSTR didnt raise it for u, u should still use it. With out using launch control, its really hard to pull a good 60ft due to not being able to build boost pre launch.

Launch - I launch it by slipping the clutch as little as possible to prevent the revs from dropping, till the car starts to move. Yeah I know I can launch harder to get the 60 ft down, but I am not trying to kill my stock clutch either.

Boost - Unless my boost was changed by the flash, it's probably at stock levels. It doesn't seem to be any higher than stock, tho.

Yes, the jetta gains roughly 50 HP from just the flash, which probably increases the boost somewhat.

From what I read on the forums here, that is the same thing the flash here does. A lot of people claim they pick up 20-30 WHP just from a flash alone, so I was figuring that with my mods I'd be good for at least 30-40 WHP.

What is a 2 step? I just emailed my image to Jestr and he sent me back a tuned image.

What is launch control and how would I use that? I didn't even know my car had that feature.

Get a boost gauge and raise your boost a little..

If you did an eflash from Jestr, pay for Evoscan or get another logging tool and log your timing/knock counts. Make sure they're in check now and after raising your boost.

Good luck.

While at a complete stop (not rolling at all) clutch in, while you're in first gear.. go WOT and let it bounce off the launch control limiter (5000rpm if stock, more if changed by your flash).. you'll be building boost off the line and its easy to launch off that.. Quick slip and go .

Launch control sets a lower rev limiter while the car is motionless with the clutch pushed in.

So for example a launch control set at 5500 would allow you to floor the gas and be at 5500 until you started to slip out the clutch and moved when it would raise back to the standard 7600 or whatever.
