Unhappy 1/4 Mile Times....

I ran friday night at a local track...out of five runs the best one was 18.67 at 72 mph...Very SLOW . I have an automatic and I ran 93 octane, so Im think it was a combonation of the two...any input or advice would be greatly appreciated

Well, auto will always be .5 to 1.5 sec slower then a manual w/ the same mods. Did you held you revs a bit or not?

2002 Yellow oz manual, with throttle body , exhaust, race pipe, headers , lowered 1.8 in., short shifter, and short ram intake. on a 1/4 tank with 91 octane, I ran 3 times, and came out with 16.1, 16.3, and 16.41. to the manuals

Are you sure that you didn't take off time from R/T? Most newbie track racer do that.

What was your 60' time?

"what do you mean? On the launch, I held the brake and had the engine revving"

that was I meant. Those are pretty much Lancer LS times.

I'd like to see some time slips on that as well, cuz I just watched a friend run high 16s with CAI, header/downpipe, testpipe, exhaust.

I dunno...racing in my eclipse GT automatic gave me about a second faster times than the GT manual because they got the crazy wheel hop. I suppose launching at lower RPMs would change that, but that's something I never had to worry about. I pulled a 16.* over their 17.*'s. Lemme know if you want me to e-mail ya the slips

I havent had a chance to get back to the track to try some different launching techniques, but I noticed that everytime I ran I got faster, of course this was my first time to the track EVER. I meant I was holding the brake and gas to rev the engine up to about 3k while the lights were changing then when they went green I would just let off the brake and floor the gas. but I guess I need to try something different, maybe just try it from an idle I dont know...

I was about to suggest a launching technique but you seem to have it down. Are you saying while you were pressing the gas and the brake pedal at the same time, waiting to release the gas pedal, you were able to bring your rpms to 3000? Without the car moving? Are you sure about this? I'd figure the car would move first at anything above 2.5k (2500rpm). Most stock automatics wouldn't allow the torque converter to be launched at 3k rpm or more unless the torque converter was modified. If you are correct that that's........amazing. Again, are you sure you are launching at [b]3000rpm]/b]?

Someone asked this earlier but what are your 60ft times like?
