Help critique my runs.

Car: 2006 IX SE w/ 1060 miles, 1/3 tank of 93 oct. No weight removal.
mods: Ti front strut bar (save 5 lbs.), winter tire setup (Michelin Alpins in stock size and Kosei T1, saved 5 lbs per corner)

Altitude can't be more than 200' (GLD in WI)
Temp: mid 40's w/ very light winds

All runs using the stock 5K 2-step

1st run

60': 2.545
330: 6.708
1/8: 9.819 @80.24 mph
1000: 12.505
1/4: 14.732 @102.01 mph

Ended up doing 6 runs total, with each run getting faster and quicker.

Last run:

60': 1.832
330' 5.486
1/8 8.523 @80.75 mph
1000 11.128
1/4 13.298@104.45 mph

I don't really know how much lower I can get the 60' using the stock 5K limiter.
Also, doesn't it seem that the 1/8 mile is a bit slow? The 1-2 shift was at 7K, and the 2-3, 3-4 shifts were at 6.8K. With mine being among the last of the IX to come off the factory (built in Aug), I noticed max boost would quickly drop to 16 psi.

Any comments welcome. I'm looking for advice for shift points, etc.

Thats some pretty good improvement.

A little more practie and you should be able to get a 1.7 60'

Shift all the gears at 7100-7200 rpm.

Not bad for first time out there, get a flash, raise the limiter and get back out there, you will then be able to cut some 1.6s and drop that et greatly...

You think that's possible with the stock 5K limiter? I'm not really into drag racing, and I really like the concept of saving the trans.

In the first run, I had it WOT when I slipped/dumped the clutch and the car just stood there, slipping the clutch past 7K rpms. I find myself having to feather the throttle during the "dumping" phase of the launch. All 4 tires squeal a bit and I get the nice chirp when going into 2nd.

But if I could somehow get 1.7s 60's w/ the stock 5K limiter, that would be great.

I decided to short shift the other gears because of some of the stock dyno plots floating around here. They all looked like the power just fell on its face right after 6500 rpm. I'll definitely try your advice next time, though.

Just try to improve your shifting throughout the whole race and you'll be fine. I ran mycar for the first time last Friday and also struggled with launching it, be patient and practice but not too much, don't wanna hurt that tranny.

The 60' is respectable, but you CAN get it into the 1.7s while still using the 5k limiter. Or, you can disconnect it and launch from whatever RPM you want. The MPH is nice, but the shifting appears quite slow. The 1.82 with 104.4mph should have been around a 13.0, so the shifting needs a lot of improvement. Maybe it was the 6800rpm shifting, but I don't think that hurt much. I don't think I've seen any stock or near-stock dynographs where the power fell off drastically after 6500. In fact, sometimes we hit peak WHP at 6800. Power always falls off after 7000rpm, but that's why we normally say to shift at 7000-7100, because you want to find the point where you're still making good power in that gear while putting yourself into the sweet spot of the next gear.

Btw, you may have permanently damaged the clutch if you burned it that bad on the first try (and any subsequent tries). Overpowering the clutch on the launch to the point of just pegging the rev limiter through first really hurts the clutch.

Also, I am not so sure you were chirping 2nd. I have never chirped 2nd on any of my 250+ drag runs, and the vast majority of those were in the 12.0-12.5 range. I ****** my 1-2 very hard, too (powershift), so that isn't a factor.

Not sure how much quicker I can shift the car. I was lifting at every shift, but I don't think that makes much of a difference. I'll definitely try the higher shift points next time out. Only problem is that the car might have some mods on it.

Heck in that first run, it wasn't just 1st gear that burned through, I also did it in 2nd gear! Seriously, I felt nauseous during that entire run knowing that I probably burned off 5K worth of miles from the clutch.

I only chirped it once. GLD isn't the greatest prepped track, add to that the cold track and the snow tires. The back end also slipped out of line a bit, just like in the launch.

From the slips, would I be in 2nd or 3rd gear by the 330' mark? Also, how much do you think the lighter rim/tire combo helped? 1, maybe 2 mph at the top end? (20 lbs of rotating weight removed).

your 330' would most definately be in 3rd gear.

power falls off sometimes, but keep in mind that gearing is a part of it too. and with the gearing its good to bring it to redline, or a little into redline to get best times.

The chirping really depends on the tires you have on the car....
