First visit at the track (like a virgin...)

Well as the title says!

THE FULL STORY

This was my very first time on the strip with the EVO and my very first time on a real dragstrip! We don't have real dragstrips in Greece, and my previous Drag experience is 7-8 passes with a tree, but of course lots of street racing, always with front wheel drive cars...

- 24.5psi spike on pump (thats on the DEFI, which is out around 1.5psi)
- Full weight on the car (everything included, spare tire, tools, jack, extra tools etc) plus my 250 pounds... :cheesy:
- A bit less than 1/2 gastank... it was between 1/4 and 1/2 to be more precise...
- Stock clutch and the restrictor pill still on the car
- 40psi tire pressure in all four tires as i was afraid to kill the tranny...

Actually i did 4 passes...

On the 1st one i did 12.8@112 slipping the clutch to death!!! Well, we said, my very first time! (the car still smells!!!)

On the 2nd run i did 2.49@113 slipping the clutch again but less than the 1st time!

On the 3rd run (against a Viper with intake and full exhaust) i dumped the clutch but bogged (rev limiter at 5500rpm). Did 12.45@114 hitting the rev limiter in 4th

On my 4th run i raised the stationary rev limiter to 5800rpm and did a respectful 1.72 60ft. Again finished on the rev limiter and did 12.14@114...

I am quite happy with the results. My car is a daily driver, it has full interior, its not loud at all, has a catalytic converter etc etc...

Next time i will use some race gas and anything from 26 to 30 psi, remove spare tire, tools, less gas, and maybe try to lighten it a little bit more (remove crash beams, very light on fluids etc)... Hope that the stock clutch will hold another event or two before i change it...

notice as your 330 went down your et did, your first couple between the clutch issue and not shifting fast your ets weren't great, get that 330 down to a 4.9 and you will be in the 11s...

Definitely i need more practice.

To get 12.1 with only four passes make me very happy...

For sure i have to be more aggressive on my gear changes, as i knew that i won't try to get the fastest changes i can do... Too many the variables i wanted to see in these runs...

Hopefully i will be able to get the 11 second passes at once on my next dragstrip visit!

The 330 was better because of the 60'. It all works together.

Just take that restrictor pill out and lower the tire pressure to 22psi or so. You're not going to hurt the trans unless you dump the clutch.

nice run man, and if you keep running it at the track the clutch will go for sure.. rev. limit should be around 8k dont know y its 5800, does not sound good. good 60 fts with that much psi in the tires. trap is nice 114 for pump, well you do have a good amount of mods so that sounds about right. what was the weight of the car?

If your worried about hurting the tranny you should have taking the spare tire, jack, extra tools, less gas in the tank and what ever else was in your car out. That extra 100 pounds of weight is hard on your car when you are drag racing it. Be smarter next time with weight savings and your car will be happier with you.

5800rpm was the stationary rev limiter...

About the tire pressure! i was surprised too to tell you the truth... I watched all other aguys dropping their tire pressure to anything from 25 to 15psi depending the car and tires... 40psi sound more like an auto cross pressure and not a drag racing pressure!!!

About the weight of the car... According to Mitsubishi the kurb weight of the car is 3263 lbs. Add around 5 gallons of gas, all other car fluids and me who i weight around 250 lbs!!! Now my Nisei piping kit is lighter than stock... However the Turbo-XS intercooler is much heavier than stock... A good weight mod was the Nisei mini battery kit which saves maybe even 20 pounds from the car!!! I believe that the car weights anywhere between 3550 to 3600 lbs with me as a driver!

About the trap speed it might have been more because in the last two runs i was hitting the rev limiter before the finish line. On the 3rd run i wasn't sure, but on the 4th run i watched carefully that my car bounced on the rev limiter around 3-4 times while having the finish in my windscreen...Then i put it in neutral and start braking...

Well i know that... This was my very first time on the strip and i wanted to see what the car does as i drive it every day to work...

Next time the car will bee at least 60 pounds lighter...

According to Buschur:

Removal of Front Bumper Support: 13lbs.
Removal of Rear Bumper Support: 17 lbs.
Removal of Spare Tire, Jack, and Tool: 37 lbs.

Thats some very easy 67 pounds that can remove from the car... Plus other stuff...

You are absolutely right... my mistake...

Wikipedia:
Curb (kerb) weight is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables (such as motor oil and coolant), a full tank of fuel and not loaded with either passengers or cargo.[1]

This definition may differ from definitions used by governmental regulatory agencies or other organizations.

Additionally, organizations may define curb weight with fixed levels of fuel and other variables to equalize the value for the comparison of different vehicles

Well you can figure out how much the car weighted...
