1/4 mile and now knock

I went to the track last night (Gainesville Raceway) and was only able to do 13.0 at 104, also on the 3rd run after the launch at the shift to 2nd the car just fell flat on its face. I took another run this time logging it and saw that it was knocking in the upper rpms, usually in the 6k range. The car has been tuned for no knock and has never knocked before, any ideas? BTW here is the timeslip, mods are in my sig.

R/T...0.717
60'...1.737
330...5.288
1/8...8.294
MPH...82.68
1000..10.900
1/4...13.068
MPH...104.80

It wasn't unreasonably hot last night and I had a fair amount of time inbetween runs at least 15 min. The gas was cheveron from a station here in gainesville.

I was running with my buddy danny who has the same car as mine but with only a tbe, drop in, and a boost controler @ 20psi. We both ran at the same time every time and he managed a best of 12.8 @109 with a 1.95 60' (good driver though), so I don't think it was anything with the temp or location.

I would try it again with some new gas. Even if its a station you normally get it from it still could be a bad batch.

hey if you go back to gainesville raceway saturday i'll be there, supposed to be great weather too. You should definitely be trapping higher.

and looking at those 60's tells me you're the better driver.

You are a better driver than your buddy since you have a way better 60' time. There is something wrong with your car. Any boost leak?

I thought about a boost leak, but that would make it rich, it wouldn't knock if it was rich would it?

A boost leak won't just make it rich, it will make the turbo work extra hard to try and maintain your preset boost level, which then produces a lot of heat and thus knocking.

I'd also like to point out that being "tuned for no knock" means nothing. Obviously, everyone gets tuned with no knock, but being tuned on a dyno for no knock in one gear is nothing compared to running 1-2-3-4 in succession as fast as possible to high rpms on a hot day.

Alright well I will do a boost leak test tonight after class. Not sure if its a leak though, it has t-bolt clamps on all the couplers, but you never know what you will find.

what is your boost gauge reading? is it spiking and then falling down a little too much or little too fast? with that kinda 60 ft, i dont think your losing boost, but its possible. i think it might have something to do with your shifting, look at your 1/8th mile time and mph, with a 60ft like that you should be going faster (should be 88mph with your mods) are you hitting the rev limiter in first then shifting? could be that your sitting on the rev. then shifting. i think you need to shift better 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, 4th is the easiest.. knock could be from heat, and if your hitting the rev. limiter a lot then you might get knock, plus the gas. is it 91 or 93? If you go out there again, try your best to shift faster... one more thing, what is the weight of the car with you in it? plus your not putting that much HP (300 AWHP) and same with TQ, i think you can get it to go 12.8 but the mph would not go up that much with that HP... if the car was gutted, then you should be going faster.... i dont think anything is wrong with your car.... but i would still take it back to the tuner and ask him why its knocking

good luck with it, and one more thing the car fell on its face, well that can happen if you stay on the rev. for a long time....

Yep! I agreed with Warr on the "tuned for no knock" comment. My car was dynotuned for no knock but at the drag, according to evoscan, there're knocks at high RPMs in 3rd and more on 4th gear. The knock sum numbers are between 10-15 toward the end of high rpms run. The intake temperature also higher toward the end of the run. To me it's normal.
