last week
my 60' on the street went from 1.90 to 1.70 with 15.5psi in the tires and a quick dry hop before the real run (g-tech) no more having to lift off the throttle to stop wheel spin then getting back on the gas in first gear.

and the bfg are a drag tire.
there for the side wall is diff, and for drag you want more of a soft side wall. and sticky grip.
look at shots at drag cars see when the side wall soft and it can flex it will grip to the ground lot better then a hard sidewall. since the hard side wall does not move and flex and makes the tire brake loss from the ground.
so just get the right tire for the right event and you will be good.

well the 555r's are a road race tire right?

IMO the Nitto's will probably last longer and have a tread wear rating of 100. Where the BFG's have a rating of 0.
I more concerned about what tire height will work best. A 225/45/17 BFG is around 25" OD. The 555r's in 245/45/17 are right around 25.7" OD. With a stock valve train and soon to be trapping around 130 mph I think the taller 555r's will work best for me. I've pulled dozens of very very low 1.6's on the stock OEM yokohamas. I want to get down into the mid 1.5's this season.

I use the falken 615's for daily driving, they are a fantastic street/autox tire, however once you get to ~ 500awhp they are useless through first gear...spin lift spin some more. That's why I bought the BFG for drag racing.

I have been looking for verification that the rolling resistance of a 275(or similar wide tire) will hurt your top end. Are there any links that I could be pointed to that might help me visualise this? I did a bunch of reading tonight about compound being more important than width but none that dealt with rolling resistance from a wider tire actually limiting top speed.

225's? why not wider?
i run BFG DR 225/35?17 tire psi at 22hot 18-19 cold.
note on a stock 05 rim.
at those time i had around 365hp - 375hp and 415tq
i get 1.5-1.6 every time with out trying.
this year i think i will try and go with a sticker tire.
also note with a really wide tire as in 275 in the upper speed it will slow you down. this is why you want a thin tire but sticky so you can go faster duhh lest friction pad on road.
