OKIX qualifies #2 @ Import Face-Off, Evo Green
Okix qualified #2 in the Tulsa Import Face-Off Quick 8 Street/Track class. Had his 3 quickest runs, his 3 quickest 60ft times, and his highest mph, ALL IN THE ONLY 3 runs he made today. Event got rained out, but now, we know 10.80s are very near. He was running 3/4 of a tank of gas, tire pressures were purposely high so we could spin them as much as possible to break in the new QTP's, and the humidity and heat were pretty high. Temps were only high 80's. but the humidities were in the 80s too. He had an 11.24, 11.02, and 11.15 (early shifting in a bye-run). 60fts were 1.59, 1.53 and 1.57. Not too bad for 25 and 26 psi and brand new tires. We'll scrub them in before the next races. These passes were on STOCK ECU and FP-Evo green turbo, Buschur bolt-ons and QTP 26.1" tires. No need for 24.5's to get good 60's. Great driving by OKIX. When temps and humidities are a little better, 1/4 tank of gas and tires run at 20/21 psi, he'll be in the 10.80s.

Those are great runs but I am suprised to see it is only trapping 123mph. Running a green on 100 oct and meth I assume you are running lots of boost too. Is it the tall tires? I also would like to know the weight of the car.

how about your car tom? when are you going to run the beast?

Fuel was 50% 101 and 50% Import. Tires are QTP Lightwweights that are 26.1" tall. (Not exactly conducive to the best 60's, but that's what we needed to lower the trap rpm's.) As far as trap mph, most people who know me, know that I don't concern myself with anything but ONE goal and that's to get the best ET. 11.0 is one of the best with these mods. I don't know too many people advertising their best times, aren't doing everything they can to get them lower. Some like shorter tires for better 60's, some use hybrid trans to get higher trap speeds (the VIII has taller 4th, 1.03 vs 1.09 for the IX), some use nitromethan to lean it out, some us no water with their meth, etc, etc. Our goal is simple, go as quick as we can and continue to tune to that goal. I raced on this same track 40 years ago, so it was almost like going home. I know the tune in the car, we had 3/4 tank of fuel, humidity was in the 80's, heat was in the 80s, wind was 20mph into the cars, tire pressure was still set high for breaking in the tires (still not ready scuffed in), so I know we have at least .2's left in it , minimum. Thanks for the congrats. Our next goal is 10.80's. If you think about it, we're only 13 hundreths away from claiming 10.80's ( I don't personally like to say that your running 10.80's if you actually run 10.89, but that seems to be what EVERYONE does, so we will to. To me 10.80 is 10.80, 10.89 is 10.89, technically it's 10.8, but tell that to the guy that just beat you when he runs a 10.85 and you run a 10.89. Weight of the car is about 3150. That's what it weighed 4 months ago when we ran it last, but since then the roll bar was built by T1 Racing (Tony Palo in Dallas), but we reduced the wheels and brakes. Still has full interior, minus back seat (not much weight there though), still has aircond, etc. The car is driven EVERY DAY to work by my son, no different than any other car, just quicker.

Fuel was 50/50 101/Import. Car is launched at 6469 with Hoosier QTP, 26X9.50 15 LightWeight's. They're advertised as 17 lbs, but they weighed 18+, the wheels are Volks CE28N's that are advertised at 9+, they weigh 10 lbs. With the wheel weights, stems, aired to 26psi, the wheels/tires weigh 29 lbs each.

Rcebowl, good to hear from you. My car is to be sold to a fellow EVOM'er in Colorado. We're working out the timing of when to get the car to him. I would love to race it, but right now, I'm having the time of my life with my son and his car. I only wish all fathers and sons could enjoy what we're enjoying.
As far as meth, yes we're running meth and water. This particular day, I decided to change the %'age to 30% water/70% Heet. I firmly believe that when the heats high (mostly caused by HIGH boost and ambient temps), the additional protection that the water gives by cooling the charge is beneficial. We didn't need more Octane rating, since we were already running Import. We DID need to keep the charge cool, so the 30% water had the cooling capacity of twice as much meth, but without changing my AFR's. For an example, we made the first pass and logged it, to my amazement, it had 0 knock throughout every gear and I was running EXTREME timing as compared to most on this board. We did show a VERY QUICK 4 count just as he made a gear change, but it was only once and gone. I increase timing again, made a few A/F changes and he immediately cut the 11.0/1.53 60ft. He then made the next pass (bye run) and lit the tires at the top of first, but still had a 1.57 60, but then early shifted 3-4 and went 11.15 being relatively easy on it. The weight of 7 extra gallons of fuel alone prevented it from be a 10.90's run. We'll be there, I'm fairly certain of that.

As far as taller tires, the tires help the mph and lower rpms. Typically, a IX runs out of it's good rpm range and starts to lower it's hp curve up top, so by running taller tires, the rpm's are in a better range. The shorter tire is better usually for the 60's, but hurt the top end (same reason as before). The trick is to calculate your trap rpms/speed and get that where you want it, without hurting your 60's. This tire was exactly where we wanted to be. The 60's are good and the trap rpms are right where we want them. (7700). When the tires are broken in, ( they still have the **** on them), well be in the 1.4's and trap rpms will also be safe, best of both worlds.
