11.8's@116. looking for troubleshooting help. (slip enclosed)
Well, my car has done this odd thing, it doesn't feel like pulling timing and I KNOW its not blowing out spark, but what exactly it is, I can't seem to figure out.
Ever since my turbo kit went on I've noticed it. With 2 different BOV's, 3 or 4 different tunes, stock ecu or aem ems, nothing seems to help. My next thought is ignition, but on 21 lbs of boost that shouldnt be an issue, correct?
In normal driving, I can bang gears with no problem and the car runs perfrect.
HOWEVER, if I leave off the 2 step and come out of the hole strong, the 2-3 shift the car like bogs down for a couple seconds and sounds odd and doesnt really pull hard at all and my afrs go quite rich if i remember correctly.
If i leave off the 2 step but bog out the launch a bit, the car will once again run fine, with no bogging out in any gears.
sometimes it happens on the 1-2, and sometimes the 3-4. really only when i hit the rev limiter in the gear before though in those gears.
the 2-3 shift, however, its EVERY time. REGARDLESS. the faster i hit the gear, it feels like the longer it takes to come out of the bog-out. it robs my trap speeds blind, as can be seen below.
60' ----1.646
330'---4.905
1/8----7.621
mph---90.42
1000'--9.942
1/4-----11.882
mph----116.64
I feel as though my car should trap at 118-119, 116 seems very low for my setup.
ams 50trim
ams vsr intake manifold
aem ems
gsc272/272s
fmic/licp/uicp/tbe
tial bov
etc
car put down 402/333 on 20-21lbs on straight 93 pump gas.
race gas tune on the way in the spring, if i can figure out this ghost problem???
I've talked to ams, buschur, other evo owners, other shops, no one else I know has ever experienced or heard of anything like it. I have NO idea what it is, and if anybody has any insight, i would GREATLY appreciate it.
please help me?

First of all it is very hard finding your problem without looking at the datalogs or the maps and the second aem has the antilag and no lift shift features, have you tried any of those?

just looking for any ideas.
thanks for your reply.
If your car is bogging down between shifts as you describe I'd put money on it that its shift knock and that you're pulling timing. Just talking to shops or people with experience isn't going to help. You need to get some logging going on during a run to see exactly what is happening.
I just noticed that you're running the EMS, which depending on how it was setup, may or may not pull timing when shifting.
Have you checked the turbo for shaft play?

I also wonder how fast you are shifting. If you are making 400whp and not pulling timing between shifts, you should be going a lot faster than 116. Does the car take a while to rebuild boost after shifting?

michael did pretty well.
i think 12.7's a couple times @ im not too sure maybe like 106's?.
he was having trouble coming out wether it was spinning or bogging im not sure i dont think he got out of the 1.8 60's though.
as far as how fast im shifting i tried everything.
ive tried no lifting and just banging it, but typically i just get probably 2/3rds off the gas between shifts and do it quite quick.
i dont lose any real boost between shifts, the car is solid unless it does this bogging thing.
i just got the ems about a week ago, and dont have a laptop with a serial port yet. but thats the gameplan is to get one and log some runs and figure out whats actually happening.
thanks Justin.

I wouldn't be suprised if your AEM had a knock correction map similar to the stock ecu's that is pulling timing between shifts. Your car has always made good power on the dyno but it seems like it doesn't want to put down a good trap speed. On a REALLY cold day I trapped 114 with 315whp. You should be trapping ~121+/-
