first time drag racing

I only got to run twice, way too many cars there. The car is a full weight evo 9 SSL with spare tire, jack, tool box in the trunk and half a tank of gas.

These are the mods:
ams street fmic
buschur cone/maf pipe
gm 3-port bcs
gsc s1 cams
3" catless tbe
hpf licp
walbro 255
1000cc injectors
28psi boost
E73 gas

I had trouble getting the launch down and had a lot of wheelspin, 2-step was at 5300 and I stayed in 4th. Shifting at 7000

Here's the times, this was at Cedar Falls in iowa

first run:
60' - 2.214
330 - 5.646
1/8 - 8.417
MPH - 89.93
1000 - 10.770
1/4 - 12.751
MPH - 113.83

second:
60' - 2.273
330 - 5.762
1/8 - 8.500
MPH - 91.04
1000 - 10.824
1/4 - 12.781
MPH - 115.29

Any opinions on how to do better would be great!

I know The second run I tried slipping the clutch a little more but I ended up with an even higher 60'? Next year I'll try lowering the tire pressure a lot. This time I just showed up and ran, didn't do anything to the car.

I have a log of my first run (laptop died before second run) and have some questions maybe someone can help me out with..

When I launched it the wheels spun at peak boost, shot from 3500rpm to 7k right away - I shifted into 2nd when that happened, should I have left it in first and eased off the throttle a little?

Is my shifting decent? I highlighted where I was shifting.

I was hoping for a higher trap speed, could I trap higher driving the car better or is that just going to lower my ET (which I want too obviously )?

Here is the log, thanks for any advice

also this is using an Exedy twin disc HD clutch

yeah your trap could be higher but once you get your launches down you'll be in high 11, low 12 country.

Your 60 shoot be around a 1.7. You have room for a TON of improvement.

I'll work on my launches. I was hoping for a higher mph but I've been doing some searching and I think I was expecting too much.

IX SSL with half tank, jack and spare weighs 3313, I weigh 190 and the tool box was probably 30. Plugged the numbers into a few online calculators and they estimate 420-430whp for 115.29mph trap which matches up pretty good with 380 on a dynodynamics.

Just a question, why are you using 1000cc injectors?

With that mph you should be in the 11's. Your launch is terrible. I got 1.6x 60's on the stock clutch. With my '03 Evo I also ran 12.3 with my mph only being 110mph..pump 93 with no extra weight reduction. So your car definitely has the power to go easy 11's

E73 is a type of Ethanol fuel. I would guess around 100octane equivalent?

E73 is the seasonal blend of E85 I had in the tank. It was a mix of 2-3gal of crappy 69% I got from a holiday and 5 gal of 75% I brought from a quik trip. E85 varies between E70 and E85 throughout the year.

My tune is good, the car is making good power, somewhere around 420-450awhp on a Dynojet. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=302943. That was on E77, my power at the track might have been a bit less from the lower blend but I dont know how much

My car is only 320whp and wtq (Mustang Dyno) and I'm pulling 12.1 with 80 degree weather and only a 1.78 60'. The thing for me that was killing my times at first was the fact that I WAS slipping the clutch. The stock clutch is pretty weak and easy to burn, especially with any mods. For me, I have to put it at the rev limiter and dump it, not slip it. I would get the same reaction you do when I slip it...rpms would rev out extremely quick. That's because the clutch isn't gripping so much, so it's basically like sitting there in neutral revving it up. Once you shift and the clutch grabs, you bog. My car was actually bogging a little off the line with the rev limit set to 5500 and tire press around 24 psi. Try dumping the clutch once or twice to see how you turn out. The person who taught me this was running his RS to 11.9x with only 292whp on Mustang dyno. That cut my 60' from 1.9 to 1.7 and my times from 12.7-12.8 down to 12.1. Good luck!!
