OZ Time slips at byron raceway!

Me and a friend of mine took our cars to the drag strip yesterday to see what our cars were running...

I drove my 2003 Lancer OZ with AEM CAI & Buschur Exhaust and My friend took his 93' Talon TSI FWD...

My number is 5 on the slip and the weather was very humid at almost 90% and we had almost a 15 MPH headwind...
My other runs were 17.3 and 17.7 and after that it was 17.052 after I started to get the launch right and then they stopped the test and tuning...

I thought I didn't do too bad for my first time at the track but I want some better weather and I need to work on my launching

Work on the launch and 60' and you'll definitely do a lot better. The stock tires are going to make that tougher though.

Vince....

EDIT: Also from your speed there I'm gonna say you'll wanna work on your shift points. From the looks of things what you did was a 0-60 test that just happened to be a 1/8mi long with a little drive afterwards.

Almost forgot...I can't wait till I go to the track. My times are prolly gonna suck so bad the first few times. Watch me run 17's at 7psi.

hey, don't forget if you want to fudge your numbers better, Road & Track have a table that compensates for temp and humidity -=wink wink=-

Do they have one that compensates for bad driving? I may need that.

Seriously though, first time at the track. Don't sweat it. Go back and kick some *** next time...but not that guy in the right lane. Stay away from him.

My friend and I are going back to the track the end of august to get some better times after going once to get a feel for the track. Hopefully by then I will have more than 2 "go" mods so I can get even better times. I just started working on my launches right as they stopped the test and tune runs so I am gonna work on it some more.

hobie - what should I do about shifting? I usually run the gears til about 5800...

thanks for the input guys, keep it comin!

matt

I'd be very very very interested in what your friend has on his DSM.

I'd be very very very interested in what raped ape was driving next to you in that run. That slip indicates that by the time you were halfway down the track, that bat out of hell was done and on the brakes.

In that case, you'd probably be interested in reading the entire post, seeing as how it clearly states it was his friend's TSI.

I'd have to agree with Hobie about the shift points. My best run of 16.804 had a 60 foot of 2.385 secs which is my lowest ever. You at 2.391 should be breaking the 17 sec mark. I shift just past 5500 rpm and run 4 gears through the 1/4.

I'm waiting for new tires and an intake before I go back.

Peace
WADAD

Oh I'll add that some people have run better times using 3rd gear to the end but I have not had a chance to do that since my car was stock and I found I ran slower.

In the run I did on the timeslip i was racing a Camaro with at least a 175 shot of nos... My friend has got intake pipe, boost cntrlr, upeer intrcooler pipe, boost gauge, 3" press bent turbo back exhaust, walbro 190 pump, compressor pipe, plugs and wires, lighter rims, removed passenger headlight, and some other stuff.... but he ran a 14.2...

The day ath the track sucked because of the weather and everyone was running slower.. We are going to a different track on the 19th to run again...

I am going to try your shift points wadad and I'll see if I can run it through third, Ive got a couple other tricks that I am going to try also..
