Disappointed about 1/8 times and traps, logs and map...

Evo IX mods:
Injen pipes + intake, PPI Ported manifold, coated tubular O2 housing, 3" RRE TBE, Cossie 272 cams, MBC to 23psi, 100 octane (3/4 tank). Street tuned (91 map), 6000 rpm second stage, flat-foot shift program. Full weight + infinity powered subwoofer. RT-615 245/45/17 stock pressure.

Best run of the night:
1.734
5.215
8.066
86.97

Shift to 2nd - Slipping clutch run:
1.861
5.471
8.357
85.97

I thought I was pulling decent times and traps until I met a fellow evo IX owner with a gutted muffler, T bleeding the wastegate for 22 psi, 100 octane (on E), an empty trunk and no tune running very similar times/traps (within .2 sec and 2 mph, same 60). For such little and inexpensive mods I feel like I'm down on power.

What is the general consensus for my traps based on my mods? Does this look right?
I'm hoping the other guy has a factory freak

you should be in the 7.7-7.8 range at least even on 91-octane. At around 90MPH or so. If you're going to use 100-octane might as well get tuned for it, 91 sucks.

My previous best on 91 octane (again 3/4 tank) + tools was an 8.3 @ 86. It was a cooler night and I was on the stock advans. Lift on shift.

When you mention 90mph traps on 91, I am going to assume I'm down on power. 4mph is a lot. I can't imaging gaining that if I gut the trunk and run less than a 1/4 tank of gas the next time.

That is pretty slow. My stock evo8 trapped 83.5mph. You didn't even raise the boost or change map so if anything (assuming your 91oct tune was on spot) the 100 octane slowed you down. The weight of the car along with a lot of gas doesn't help and IMO the manifold and o2 housing don't really help much at all. But even with TBE, cams and a tune you should be much higher... You should start with a basic tune up. Plugs, clean your air filter, and do a boost leak test. Then do some logging and see how the tune is. After that it might be time to consider a retune.

I was tuned for 21 PSI on 91 octane, turned it up to 23 when I put the 100 octane in.

Plugs were changed a few thousand miles ago. Airfilter is fine. I'll run a boost leak test tomorrow.

Looking back on my slips, pre-cams on 91 trapped at 85mph.

I believe your main issue was the racegas! If you are not tuned for it the car will perform worse even from stock... I know it because it happened to me also... To use racegas you have to be tuned for it...

If it's unleaded 100octane, it probably won't hurt it that bad. My AFR's stayed nearly identical when throwing in unleaded 100octane on top of my 93oct tune without changing anything.

When I had the around the same mods as the OP, I went 7.6 @ 89-90mph in the 1/8th on 100octane and 7.7-7.8 @ 88mph on 93oct.

Thanks for the responses. I'll be returning this week back on 91 octane to see how she does. Then retune for the 100.

Talked to my tuner about it, I've got a better understanding as to why the non tuned evo took better to the 100 octane and mine did not.

On a side note, I did a boost leak test yesterday. At 13k miles, my TB seal is leaking.

I trapped 85 on my VIII with just a cat-back and weight reduction...

Update.

Just returned to the track last week. Running 91 octane, 3/4 tank. Put in a mil.spec tb to cure the leaking seal and have recently taken over the tuning, all other mods the same. Unfortunately, the stock clutch is slipping more.

Run 1:
1.976
5.428
8.307
86.43 mph

Run 2:
1.994
5.524
8.449
85.4 mph

I've included log's of each run and the map I've been tweaking:

Unfortunately, I've been having issues with the new evoscan beta and my LM1 wideband.

I'm very new to tuning, so any input on my file would be appreciated. Interesting that I hit those knocksums on the track but not on back to back 3rd gear pulls.
