What is the highest trap on the Evo 9 4th gear??

Same question on e.t.

Does your mile an hour increase in the same gear, at the same rpm, with more hp??

ie. say with 370whp you cross the line at 8000rpm at 113mph...then go with a bigger turbo and make 450whp at 8000 rpm will your mph increase? Everything else being the same....tire size..weight etc.


i am trying to figure out when is swapping the evo 8 4th gear in necessary or worth it.

No. RPM/speed will always stay the same, regardless of whp. That is provided the clutch is locked up. The RPM/Speed WILL change if you use taller tires or 'longer' gears.
A taller tire will lower the rpm for the same speed. A 1.03 4th gear from an VIII will lower the RPM for the same speed on a IX. One other thing is tire growth changes with tire pressure, but not to a large degree.

As far as highest trap, that totally depends upon what the max rpm of the engine being used. 7800 rpms in the traps is max for a 7800 rpm redline. Some built motors can spin 9000 with no problem, so therefore, the speed will be higher, but only at the higher rpm. Higher hp cars accellerate at a higher rate and can run out of gear quicker than the lower hp cars. They can therefore 'pull a taller tire, or use a taller 4th gear'.

I top out my evo 9 4th with a 26in. tire combo at 8,500 at 132mph. I hit my rev limiter about 50ft from the end so I know I can go at least 132mph+.

i kept hitting the rev limiter yesterday after i dropped my tire pressure..

highest trap was 113 and i hit at 8200 rpm...at the line exactly...

i am swapping in an evo 8 4th gear...

cause going with a bigger turbo will def force a 5th gear shift..

How did you come up with 8200 rpm at 113? Are you on smaller tires, is this with a data log or looking at the tach, I have trapped 118.6 at around 8000 on 255/40-17 tires. Just curious 113 in my car is usually 7650 or less.

nope looking at my mph when i cross the line might be around 8k....but it is def 113mph..

i am on 18" rims.. 245 40 18..

you have bigger then stock tires...255 is way wider..remember the 40 is a percentage of the 255...so your side walls are higher then mine...an higer then stock..giving you more mph..

is it going to be a huge difference putting in the evo8 3rd and 4th. i would imagine i would trap higher, but im most concerned with how it will be on the street. i would imagine having longer gears would definatly help on the street. But i could have sworn i heard somehwere that part of the reason that 9's run good at the track is because of the short gears. not sure if i should go evo8 3-4 or not

Stock se wheels with yoko super avs sports 255/45/17 gives me a 26.1 tire diam.
