So here was my best time in my new Evo.

This was my first time dragging so don't get too mad at me

My best reaction time was a .575 and my best 60' was prolly a 2.2

Here's my problem. I was slipping at about 6k on my better runs. Those produced better 60', but a lot of people were telling me to dump at 5k, dump at 6k. I tried both and bogged......how is that possible? Everyone was telling me that I should be getting 1.90 60's, but I don't understand.


Possible factors:
1.It was reallllly hot. If it wasn't at least 100 at the strip it was in the high 90's.

2. My Evo only has about 600 miles on it. Maybe it needs to be broken in a little more?

I appreciate any suggestions

 

did you put the intercooler sprayer on?

also when you dumped it, did you floor it right when you dropped the clutch?

If you didnt then it would bog

 

I sprayed it, yeah. I had it on Auto, but I was manually spraying for a while in each gear.

I didn't really floor it after the dump. Are you supposed to hold the rev's at like 6 then dump, then immediately floor it?

 

Here's what I do to run high 13's. I'm new as well so I'm sure I am not perfect. When I'm waiting to stage in I spray for about 10 seconds two or three times to get the intercooler pretty wet. Then turn it to auto. As soon as I stage in, I start revving. Hold it somewhere between 5 and six. I try to launch on the upward rev so the engine has strain on it. Slip the clutch ever so slightly and as soon as the car moves dump it and floor it. I shift around redline to 2nd. A little into redline to 3rd. And around 6800 to fourth. Fourth only lasts for about 2 secs and I cross the line at usually 98 mph. I have been able to launch at lower and lower RPM's. When I do the same thing only around 4 to 5000 RPM's I get mid 13's. It's harder to time the clutch but practice makes perfect. And it saves the clutch.

 

You will learn VERY fast you can't dump the clutch, it will bogg every time. YOu have to feather it out ever so slightly around 5000,6000rpm's then release it fully witht he pedal mashed. That should score you 1.9 consistant, with 1.8 every now and then. It has scored me 13.56 fastest and consistant 13.7's.

You can do better if you have no reguard for your clutch though.

I didn't think the sprayers hit the IC unless you were moving. If not you're just putting water on the ground...which around here is enough to get you kicked out of the drag strip.

 

hrmm my first run i ran with ic spray on, fast feathered at 5500 and i got R/t of 1.1, 60ft of 1.7 and E/T of 13.5

 

The two sprayers spray directly at the center of the IC. They work like the windshield sprayers but more of a fan instead of direct stream. apursell, Just wondering how you can get a R/t of 1.1 and a 60 ft of 1.7? My fastest R/t is .745 and I had a 60 ft of 1.8. Do you run pro tree?

 

R/T has nothing to do with your 60 time... time dont start going until u cross the barrier... ALL R/T is is the amount of time it took for your car to break the barrier once it turns green... man i just dont get it i was gettin 1.9 60' times consistent... trapped 98 mph... and only was hittin 14.0... bs.... i think my clutch had a lil to do with it... but i dont kno wat else.... is everyone power shifting while WOT on gears..? how much time do u think it takes off topower shift on half throttle on gears...?

 

Nappy K I was there at Fontana and was one of the dudes that told you to dump at 6000 rpms. Yes you have to gas it when you dump or it will bog. I f you don't spin the tires a bit you will bog. Practice until you spin the tires and get into 4th gear sooner and run a better time. I was scared also but it works. Hopefully will be draggin someday at the speedway but right now I will wait for temps to lower and find out the fate of my 4th gear grind.Also good luck with your clutch cause mine went out trying the feather/slip method only occasionally to master a good launch. I basically drive my Evo like a beatch but it is nice to know how to make it perform when needed. Try and master 6000 rpm dump 3-4 times max and save it for a grudge match. As for me my evo goes 0-60 in 7 sec and does a 3.0 60 . I only abuse my car on rare occasions and after 3000 miles and a new clutch wow maybe I have subjective opinion on abuse.OUT!

 

Ahh, what's up bro! Yeah, it was hot as hell. I don't think I'll be going back until it cools off a little too. This time though I think me and all my buddies are going to try to get some big tarp tents so we can give our cars (and ourselves) some shade. And we all know that our Evo's run hot as hell quick. I must have burnt my fingers on the prop rod like 5 times on Saturday,

Anyways, yeah, I'll keep practicing and hope to see more Evo's and STi's there next time I go. This way we can have some good grudge's.

Oh, btw, did I tell you I bought a set of Defi Gauges Bought from Gruppe-S on Friday, I think I should have them today if not by Wednesday.

Hey IE, I've been working on my launch. I can get the tires to spin a little now, but I only nailed the launch once. I held at 6k and dropped that **** and my RPM's only dropped to 4k. That was a good one. The others I didn't get as good, but I'll have it down soon.

 

Did the clutch burn or car bog? or a little of both.
