1st Annual Buschur Racing Import Shootout review

Hi everyone! I will be updating the post with more and more information as the week goes on. Winner names for each class etc.

The event for us started on Thursday with people rolling into town for tunes and parts installs for the race.

Saturday was our open house and in the past for the Subi VS Mitsu race we have never had a problem with having enough room at our shop. This year we did run out of room and quite a few people parked along the street and behind our place. Next year I will arrange to have the street closed down like we do for the DSM/EVO Shootout.

The actual attendance wasn't as high as I expected it to be and I feel the reason is the track schedule that is mailed to probably a hundred thousand people had the race listed as a DSM/EVO Shootout. I will post the actual attenedance numbers once I get them from the track. Race car count was decent and it seemed like there were quite a few specatators as the pits had a lot of cars in it.

The highlights of the event for me were watching so many of the cars we've finished over the last few months come out and prove what they had. I am having a freaking really great time with some of these guys that I am becoming very good friends with. I haven't had this much fun in a very long time. You guys know who you are, THANK YOU.

Here is my list of memorable times/races for the weekend. Slowest to fastest.

12.29 at 111 mph (112 mph best) for our EVO X. Kevin Lawson at the wheel. This is the quickest/fastest stock turbo'd EVOX currently, done on 93 octane.

11.14 at 123 mph, Chris's EVO9. Bad *** car, excellent driver. BR Stages 1-4
Green turbo, Exedy clutch and a Dynoflashed ECU on C16.

10.5 at 137 mph, Curt 1g DSM. Unbelievable as usual with Curt. This car is equipped with a 16g turbo.

10.4 at 145 mph, Eric's EVO8. Full BR build, HTA35r. This car went 10.8 at 134 mph on 93 octane. No power shifting, too hard normal radial tires, it's going 9's.

10.2 at 145 mph, Tim's EVO8. Full BR build, HTA35r. This car went 10.6 at 135 mph on 93 octane. Car has a set of cheapo all season radials on it. Tim put Trent in the car and Trent ran a 10.05 at 146 mph. Another car obviously going in the 9's on a decent tire.

10.2 at 146 mph, Jeff's EVO9. Full BR build, HTA37r. This car went 10.7 at 137 mph on 93 octane. Car has stock Advans on it. Again, good tire is putting this in the 9's.

**Let me stop for a second and say GREAT job to the guys above. You all can drive extremely well and building cars that are complimented with great drivers sure help to make what we are doing look good. THANK YOU.

9.42 at 155.51 mph, David Buschur's (mine) EVO8. Full BR build, HTA35r. This car ran 10.02 at 141 a few weeks ago on 93 octane. Trent Stanley was the wheel man for the day. The slowest pass of the day was a 9.60 when the heater hose came off the heater core and blew hot antifreeze in on Trent's legs/feet. Thank God he wasn't burned. I think he made about 7-8 passes between the 9.4 and 9.60. MPH hit 155 atleast twice all others (other than the 9.60) were 151 mph or better. This car was driven to the track, raced on Hoosier DOT tires. All of the cars talked about so far had BR 3" turbo back exhausts on them and in full street trim, not gutted race cars.

8.98 at 160 mph, Kevin's FWD DSM. This car was built completely by Kevin as far as I know. Auto trans. Fast and consistent everytime it shows up. Beat us in the semi-finals in our black car, close race that was awesome to watch. I don't mind losing in a race like that.

8.89 at 165 mph, Buschur Racing's EVO. My brother Daniel was at the wheel. The car has been out at the chassis shop all winter getting work done to it. We just got it back at 4:30 mph Friday. Daniel busted his butt and got the car buttoned up and ready to race and for the dyno competition on Saturday. We actually won the dyno competition making 863 whp, Big Al from Dynoflash was a very close 2nd making 853 whp. We did nothing to the engine/head in the car over the winter, we didn't have the car. The engine is the same engine we had last year. The learning curve is going to be fairly steep on the car. The first pass the car was hopping and all over the place. When Daniel hit the finish line he hit the brakes and the car turned sideways, tire smoke rolling and luckily he got it straightened out, 9.2 at 165 mph. The next run we noticed after the burnout the rear tires locked up. This is why the car turned sideways in the shut down the pass before. I opened the door to the car and told Daniel to get the chute open before the finish line. Deploying the chute early helped but it was a bandaid for the day. We will be installing a proportioning valve for the rear brakes this week. We did some adjustments to the rear suspension and the bouncing stopped on the launch but the car just wouldn't leave the line hard. Finally in the Semi Final round of Q16 against Kevin's FWD 1G I made another change that helped. The car had a 1.41 sixty foot time and ran a 8.89 at 165 mph. By this point our Tilton from last year was showing it's age and the car wouldn't shift to 2nd. On the 8.89 run Daniel had to let the engine RPM drop all the way down and then engage 2nd just so it was clean. First race of this year we are as quick as we were last year and we have a lot of work to do yet. I see some good things for this year.

There were downside and fatalities too, but the list is very-very short. I want to mention them because racing is a series of highest highs and lowest lows, that is what it is made up if you ask me. A lot of work, a lot of time and tons of money. I think there are generally more disapointments than there are new records and achievements. To keep going and repairing things takes a level of dedication most people don't have. The key board warriors are quick to point fingers and run their mouths driving their stock cars and not accomplishing anything but spreading hate.

Al from Dynoflash was at the race, he always makes it. Something failed in the shortblock I built. The car had only one race day on it and a hand full of dyno runs. It appears as though the actual crankshaft broke but it is hard to say, I'll know later in the week.

My good friend Matt was there too, he ran a new best of 10.2 at 145 mph but also me with a engine failure. It sounds like a rod bearing and was caught early, so damage will be minimal. The car had a horrible misfire on the dyno we tried to work out and then at the track every pass. The car was in a wreck last fall which ruined some wiring. We had problems with the fan, fuel pump, ignition and other things. The misfiring I am sure is what took out the rod bearing as that is extremely abusive. The car had an extremely erratic RPM signal, which I figured was electrical because of the wiring issues. Steve, our mechanic at our shop, found it was a loose bolt on the cam causing the cam signal to bounce around. Once fixed the car ripped off the 10.2 pass and considering the car made 760 whp at 38 psi the day before was going deep into the 9's. Trent jumped in the car to see if he could get it to launch but that's when the rod noise started.

All in all, two failures from the list of cars that set records, ran great and drove to and from the track is something to be proud of as far as I am concerned. Speaking of that, Tim drove his car about 4 hours one way to the track and back home. Eric was well over 2 hours away, Jeff about 3 hours. All of them drove there in comfort and drove home too.

Thanks everyone for coming out. We appreciate you all attending our races, coming to our shop, having builds done and many times just for putting up with us.

sounds like an awesome day of racing...its great seeing all these 10sec evos...we have been working with our 04 cobra with basic bolt ons for quiet some time to get it into the 10s (it makes enough power too) but something always happens that keeps us from doing so (11.27 @125 was this past weekends run)...any videos?

I had a great time and can't wait for the DSM shootout now!

I will be ordering two small parts which I feel will get me into the 10's soon enough.

Thanks again David for a great event. I'm sure next year will be even better!

It was definitely a fun event. I didnt get to watch much racing as I was in charge of the car show stuff but I still had a good time. We couldnt have asked for a better day to have it. The weather was just gorgeous!

I look forward to seeing the event grow more and more.

My wife posted up
/, and will probably be posting more as she gets time to go through them. Here's a couple I took; I've got a bunch more to go through as well:

Dan Lewis' 2g:

Adam's Evo VI, as piloted by a crazy Icelander:

Kiggly hauled some *** during Quick 16; that race between his FWD and the black car was one of the most exciting I've seen in a long time.
