BF vs Nitto

I'm trying to decide which one should I buy. BF Drag radials 225-45-17 or the Nitto 555R 245-45-17? Which one do you guys recomend knowing the Nitto's are wider. Main purpose is to get a better 60'.

One other thing, do you guys heat up those tires?

Thanks!

Ive heard a lot of good things witht he BFG's.
I am in the same boat as you, looking for a way to cut my 60 foot. I spin all of first and my best has been a 1.79..

IMO the BFG's are to short of a tire. But it depends on the power you are making.

I just pulled a personal best of 1.601 on the stock OEM tires! I am looking at getting the 555r's to get my sixty's down into the 1.5's or so. I also need a little taller tire over the stock tire.

I have heard the same thing about the BFG's. They are a great tire. Seems like most people use the BFG's over the Nitto's. Don't know the full story on why though. If it was me I would go with the BFG's just because people have had good luck with them. I think their are ruffly the same price. But I could be wrong.

I know the BFG's have a softer sidewall which will help from breaking parts as well as better grip. Depending on the power you are putting down the Nittos will do the job, but I recommend the BFG's. If possible I would even look as the Mickey Thompson Drag Radials if they will fit your rim. MT's are even better then the BFG's.

Hey guys i was just in the same boat and i had a heck of a time finding the bfg's.

I just threw on some Nitto's and have had good luck with them for the brief exp at the track as well as w/ another set off our other evo that runs consistant 10.90's and has gone 10.70 w/ the same Nitto DR.

His 60's are consistant 1.6x's

I went 1.68 and 1.7x when i borrowed his and i only made 3 passes on the brand new ones i mounted on stock wheels a week ago w/ only one real launch 1.6x then i blew an i/c pipe

I have a lot of exp w/ dr's of all sorts and it tends to be that the bfg have better compound for the strip.

On that note i'd like to say if any of you would like my pretty much brand new Nitto's i'll try and make you a good deal. (can have pics if needed)

Both the other evo as well as my own are going on a QTP or a full slick once i put my new QM clutch in next week.

How do you get your 60' so low on stock tires? whats the secret?
the best i can do is a 1.75..
I spin all of first and have tried lowering the tire preasure down to almost 18psi all around and no luck, thats why im going to get the bfg's or nittos..

Yes the BFG's tend to wear faster than Nitto's

Hey man sorry but i didn't get an e-mail notification about your post.

I just pm'd 2muchboost as he had asked if they are still available.

I do still have them but they are still mounted on my stock wheels.

I can get them removed ASAP and as for price....as i told 2muchboost i just payed over $600 for the plus mounting/balance so i'm not 100% on what to ask as they are brand new.

I'll get pics for both of you later tonight as i work til 6pm PST.

Where would you need them shipped?

Also would you be interested in the wheels and tires together? If not no worries.

2muchboost - I have found that you can get really good 60's w/ street tires often cheapy tires w/ less stiff sidewalls unlike stock advans......but at what cost to d/l parts and how consistantly....

another note I have seen people driving around town on the Nitto's. A few people have told me that you can do that on them. But when it comes down to the BFG's they are soft and can't really drive around on them. You will eat them up real fast. So I would say this,
BFG's - TRACK USE ONLY
Nitto's - TRACK and STREET USE (But if it was me I would only put them on at the track)

If you guys where to compare the specs of the BFG's and the Nitto's . You would see the Nitto's are the clear winner.

Now if BG had a tire wider than a 225, it may be a different story.

Jeff, can you be more specific? Many more Evos have been using the 225/45-17 BFGs than the Nittos. I am not sure I want a tire that is shorter than stock, so if the Nitto is really as good, then the 245/45 would be better for me, I think. I'm getting to the far end of my powerband in 4th and would rather extend the gearing a little as opposed to shortening it (I think so, anyway). The 245 could help some with the extra width, too, but I am curious as to who has been using the Nitto 555R on 400-ish whp Evo.

I think some people get confused between the 555 and 555R. Both the BFG and Nitto 555R should be very soft and get very little tread life in terms of driving on the street, but both should be streetable except in rain maybe. I plan to mount whatever I get on my winter rims (17X8 Rota Torques) and just drive them to/from the drag strip. I just need to decide between the Nittos and BFGs...

Hmm, I see Discount Tire Direct has the 275/40-17 Nittos on sale for $150/each. I could probably fit those, but I'm not sure all that extra width is worth the extra weight.
