For what I have now, probably not. For whats coming...yes. That and I am going to curb some of the drivetrain damage and waiting on the 25" Toyo DR1s was killing me. I can always sell the 26s and drop down later if these end up too tall. Between more boost, more Ethanol, SMIM, the bottle, etc. they will start to be needed I think.

As far as height actually goes, the 275-40s I have measure 25.7 free and these are 26.1 plus they are alot lighter and thats the main advantage to me right now I think...that and like I said the reduced drivetrain shock.

How do they reduce drivetrain shock? I figured they'll increase it greatly!

I don't even know how to treat DRs on the Evo, so it's going to be a learning experience. My Nittos showed up today, so it's time to get busy.

Those are full slicks not drag radials They measure 26x8.5-15 on centerline convo pros in a 15x7.5 (11lb wheel). The reason they reduce drivetrain shock as I understand it is because they wrinkle wall and dont wheelhop like low profile "street" tires like the RA1s I had been using.

Tom the bottle is last resort. I have had the wet kit sitting in my living room for the last 2 years so I am not really serious about putting it on yet. If I can find the time and keep the rack open long enough I will put my little brakes on and rear wheelstuds and be good to go.

I will probably be at the track this friday with the blue monster (4202'd 1G of a customer's) helping with its baby steps, but I dont expect to have my car ready to race anymore than it has been on the heavy 18's.

18" wheel - 31 lbs
15" wheel - 11 lbs (savings 80 lbs)

275-35-18 - 29 lbs
26-8.5-15 - 19 lbs (savings 40 lbs)

Not hard to see that will take some serious weight out of the car both as total vehicle weight and rotational as well. We'll see what it does, hopefully it picks up at least a mph

Holy cow, your rims really weigh that much? My 18X9.5s weigh 19.5lbs, and the 285/30-18s are 26lbs. 60lbs per corner is UNBELIEVABLE - you will get huge benefits from the 30lbs per corner.

Gotcha - I thought you were saying these would induce less drivetrain shock than other DRs/slicks, but you were referring to stiff sidewall street tires. They will definitely crinkle on the wall, which is what gives you the great launch. I was feeling my new Nittos today at the store, and they are so ridiculously soft compared to my race tires and even street tires. I can actually mold the tire with my fingers - both the sidewall and contact patch, so I can't wait to try them.

My 18s I bought for the look not performance, and the 17x9.5s I had weighed 18.6 with a 28 lb 275-40-17 RA1. I sold the 17's since I dont actually use them for what they are intended and no one needs 2 sets of R compounds anyway. So I put my street tires on the 18s awhile back and just mobbed those until Centerline got done making my wheels. Apparently they dont have much call for them and didnt have them on the shelf

Yeah the Stern ST1 is not a light wheel

But that will drop my car weight from 3270 with me in it (135 jockey weight) to what 3150? I'd like to see some more out, but its not to race status quite yet so I am going to leave some of the street stuff on it for a touch.

Jayzus, 135...I'm closer to 235, and that's 1mph right there! I'm 3275 with me at this point, so that means I've gotten it close to 3025 with less than a 1/4 tank. It's still nothing you can see, so it's not significant weight reduction by any means unless you include the rear seat cushions. They are so light, but I take them out anyway, since it's so easy/quick.

I usually run 22psi in the front and 24psi in the rear with my Nitto's Been getting consistant 1.64-1.65 60fts with that. Might help give you a general idea of where to start with them.

Ryu, I had no idea you were on DRs. Wow, that certainly changes things.

I plan to start with higher psi and drop down. I would not be surprised if I end up in the low 20s.

I mainly got them because it was a slightly taller tire then stock and I was completely out of gearing in 4th in the 1/4 before I got them. As far as 60ft improvements from my street tire Potenzas there so far has been very minimal improvements. Before the Nitto's I was getting 1.66-1.68 60ft's consistantly and ran an 11.6@117mph. Perhaps it is time for me to do something about the stock suspension.

I'm right on board with you. I specifically got the Nittos over the BFGs, because I don't actually have enough power to use all that stick from BFGs, and I wanted to get more gearing out of it. I am not quite as fast in trap speed, so I'm not running out of rpm yet, but I _am_ way out of my powerband due to altitude. At 8000rpm, I am down about 80whp from peak, so when I'm creeping along at the end of the 1/4 (I'm in 4th for 950'), I would love to have a bit taller gearing to put me in the meatier part of my rpms. It may also help me shift a few hundred rpm later in each gear, which would be ideal.

As for traction, it can only get better, but like you I was already doing 1.68s on the street tires. I have a problem at one local track that doesn't let street tires run in the groove, so we have to launch on slippery, polished concrete. With the DRs, I can launch on the big-boy pad, which will help immensely. My goal is actually a 1.55, but I guess anything better than 1.65 would be great plus the extra gearing.

On the stiffer sidewalled RA1s I found that 19-20psi was about perfect and netted 1.60s pretty consistent. They had "that" feel the one that blurs your vision and hits you in the stomach. It also got rid of the washboard feel of wheelhop and whatever else causes that.

Polished concrete? That seems pretty lame.

Lame indeed. Check out these dueling 1.85 60's - look how they make us go to the outside of the orange cones where there is no rubber or VHT.
