Good job first time out! Has it been tuned?

the car isn't making any extra crazy horsepower, it feels totally 100% normal. I've had it checked by two different dealerships, it has been cleared as never modded, never had a flag, nothing. They guy who owned it only owned it for like 6 months during a New England winter and traded it in the following spring. He barely drove it. Wouldn't even bring it to the dealership when he traded it in because it was raining.

And no, the car is not tuned. I am keeping it as is until I break 12's or decide I'm not going to be able to do that.

Well good luck and I dont even want to discourage you. May the force be with you! It is possible that the prior owner had it tuned and returned it to stock before trading it in. The dealership wouldnt know the differene or care and the fact that it's performing well indicates it's probably in great condition. There of course will be factory freak cars, mine is pretty powerful too.

There is always that chance but I was told the guy was a total baby with the car to the point that it was constantly cleaned and detailed, but never driven. The tires looked like they had just been put on the rims when I took delivery. I am honestly going to go with a factory freak car.

What does a stock Evo ecu rev to? I've heard someone say it goes past red line but never checked and my video was a bit to dark to tell on my run last night. My guess would be that if I'm tuned I would go way past red line if I jumped in my car and checked right now.....

Redline is 7k, and the stock rev limiter is set to 7606rpm.

You definitely went well over 7k if you trapped 108.5. You also would have felt the stock launch control, which is set at 5k, if you tried to launch unless you were actually leaving the line below 5k. The info you gave about dealerships checking it out in no way proves that it was not modded/tuned. It sounds like it wasn't based on the previous owner's behavior, but the dealership wouldn't know if it was flashed. It's easy to figure out, though.

My butt dyno tells me it hasn't been. I've ridden in an Evo that was mildly tuned and nothing else and to me it felt differnt. I figured I went above 7k no doubt there, I just wasn't watching the tac all that closely especially at the end in 4th gear.

What is a way to figure out if it was besides the obvious of looking under the hood, which looks totally 100% normal for an Evo, even on the boring side if you ask me.

And I'm still wondering if you have any advice to help me break the 12's as far as tire pressure or any thing else. I do use the 2 step/launch control and it was awesome last night, but i didn't side step the clutch, I slipped it. I kinda wanted to let it out faster or maybe side step it, but I wasn't sure if I should side step it.

Thanks.

You don't need advice like that yet - you just need to launch. You hit a 2.0 60' on that 13.1. That means you didn't launch - didn't even really try. A 1.7 would be way into the 12s with a 108 trap, which makes no sense for a stock IX MR, especially on 92oct. You should be able to do it, though, if it keeps trapping 108+.

How can your butt dyno tell you if it's tuned or not when it's brand new? I don't quite get that comment. Riding in an Evo is not the same as driving one - same with any car. It always feels different in the passenger seat.

just personal experience i guess. the butt dyno was a joke. I'm positive the car has never been tuned.

You can't be positive if you haven't pulled the ROM and looked at it. You don't tihnk it's strange that you have the fastest stock USDM Evo ever? By far...and on 92oct...

No I don't because I would be willing to bet that its the tracking gear at the track before I would say it was the car. There is no evidence that this car did anything but sit in a garage or get driven on a weekend by the original owner.

The only thing that we can do right now is wait til I get back to that track either this or next wendsday, and maybe even see what happens when I visit another local track. Who knows, I might not see another 108 trap again til I mod. I have no idea. All I know is I really don't think this car was modded or tuned.

I know all about timing equipment being off - I have a slew of timeslips from the past month to prove it. However, I can analyze your slips and see that you HAD to be going fast as hell to get those types with those 60's.

A 13.1 @ 104 is pretty decent. Doing that with a 2.0 60' is impossible, so you definitely had to be going much faster than a 105 trap to make up all that ground after such a slow 60'.

I know I was going faster than a 105 trap because as I said before I messed up at the end of my race. I watched the in car video a bunch of times later last night and i had it at an angle where you can see me shifting and you have a good impression of where the needle is on the tac, its not crystal clear, but you can tell.

So when I was in 4th and I was damn near 7k i think that for some STUPID reason I went to shift to 5th because you hear the engine rev up then drop off as i grab the shifter and look like i tried to go to 5th. I can not tell you why, I really can't. But I'm an idiot for doing so.

Anyway, thats the best I can give you. I am getting more and more adimate about going to the track again asap so I can back up these numbers. And I'm going to a BBQ today where I'm going to see if someone can hook up to my car and tell me if it was ever tuned or look at my ROM. Just so I can clear the boards here.

I want to make sure no one thinks I'm trying to pull a fast one here. I may be new to drag racing, but I'm no slouch, I know how to drive my car. I'm just not an expert at dragging yet.

All you have to do is launch it.
