Guess I should post up my first time slips, huh?

So last night I went up to Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA with a buddy and my wife. My car is BONE stock with 7,900 miles on it and this was my first time EVER drag racing, I'm a twisties guy, but I think I caught the bug last night.

My car had about 3/8ths of a tank of 92 (best I can get here in the NW) and stock Advans which I totally forgot to let some pressure out of (leads to a ?, what is the recommended pressure to run at anyway for stock 17's and Advans?) I also had all my spare tire stuff and my small 10" Boston G1 in the trunk, oh well.

So onto the story for each slip. I only got two runs so it won't be much. My first run I was a bit nervous. It was still light out and it was probably in the high 70's. I was 2nd to stage and didn't have long to find the "sweet spot" on my clutch or really get on the two step, so I eased it out of the box really slow after my horrible reaction time. But I ended up getting it right down the track. Heres the slip:

I talked to the guy I raced after, he was in a very nice late 60's camaro with a 350. He said he missed 4th which I had figured, but he was convinced I would have had him anyway because he usually traps only 104, I said i didn't think the trap would have mattered. Anyway, for my first run, it was fun and I was hooked.

Now, the second run was about 2 hours later and the last of the night, they had to many other things going on at the track last night and to many people breaking their rides going down the track causing for long clean ups. But my second run I ran against a nice guy I had spent some time talking to who had a 06 (I believe) GTO 6.0 I managed to stage before him, get my clutch set and get the revs up, I have a video from my in car camera, but I forgot to shut the cam off so it drags on for a bit after. I will have to see if I can edit it. But I think I got a much better launch, horrible reaction time still, and I should have just side stepped the clutch.

edit: the reason why my trap speed SUCKED in this one is because I thought I had passed the finish line like RIGHT before I actually did and I let up on the gas, I will be running ALL the way to the end from now on just to be sure.

Heres the slip:

I hate a lot of fun last night. There were at least 6 or 7 other Evos running all sorts of good times and another half a dozen there watching. I can't wait to go back asap.

Thanks for checking out my post, sorry for the novel

Probably the highest trapping stock Evo ever - not sure how on an MR, which has a gearing handicap in 4th and more weight than an RS, GSR, or SE. With any somewhat normal 60', that's an easy 12.

Thank you very much! Congrats on 20000 posts man, thats crazy.

I was reading your thread and some others, you seem to know your stuff and I take that as a huge compliment.

My goal right now is to break into the 12's while I'm still bone stock, no tune or anything, before I start modding my car. I'm a fast learner, I just need to get to the track more.

Any tips on how best to break those 12's I will put them to use, my biggest being how to best set my car up for the track, like tire preasure, should I take out my small sub and spare stuff, fuel additive (since I can only get crappy at best 92 here), anything you have, I will try.

holy crap 108 on a stock car?? Thats f'n CRAZY!
All you can do is launch harder and shift faster..Go on a cold day with good track prep and you should get it, I was running 12.6's at 107 on my evo so you should have it no prob, unless there is an error on your trap reading.

That 108 mph would have to be the fastest stock trap around.

But considering your trap of 104 on the right lane, despite you letting off right before the line, makes me wonder if the left lane is reading a bit optimistic. Unless you braked at the finish line, coasting that short of a distance won't account for the 4 mph difference.

Still a strong car, nonetheless.

Learn how to launch that pig and it is an easy 12 second car.

1/10 on your 60" is 2/10's at the big end. Get that car down to some more respectable 1.7 short times and your good for a 12.8

i had that thought to, but the left lane was pretty consistent from what I saw. I will have to find out when I go back. I'm trying to make another trip there either this or next wendsday.

If you watch the in car video of my 2nd run you can see that I **** something up other than letting off the gas at the end. Im not sure if I tapped the clutch or what like I was going to shift or something because you hear me spike the rpm and then they just drop off. My adrenaline was pumping so hard last night that I can't be sure what I did, other than maybe mis-shift or something. I want to try and hit that 108.5 again

but at this power level the MR 6 speed is absolutely perfect for the 1/4

there isn't a cold chance in hell a stock evo trapped 108mph. I made made 342 at the wheels and trapped a best of 107 (and did a 12.5 so it's not my driving thanks).

It's very much unlikely, yes, but 342whp = 112-113mph traps minimum. 12.5 @ 107 is good driving for sure, but 107mph means you were closer to 280whp at that point in time. I did 12.64 @ 106.5 with 270whp. Hell, I'm only at 325-340whp now anyway. Not a Dynojet, though...

Well, I dunno what to tell you man, I don't run the radar or whatever, I just drive the car. The time slip says it all and my car is stock right down to the tires.

Kim is like my shadow, she follows me everywhere and I'm so use to it I forget. Lol. Seriously though, she got a laugh from that James.

And it does NOT have that sticker on the door still. I took it off 5 minutes ago.

well I'd get the car checked out. A stock evo making unknown amounts of strange extra hp could be dangerous. A mid 12 sec stock evo is not normal and 108 in the 1/4 would be a world record for a stock evo. Maybe the bad 60's are resulting in high mph??
