Stock turbo who uses slicks.
I have been pondering the idea of running slicks this upcoming spring. Does anybody run slicks using the stock turbo, stock tranny and transfer case or are they all street tire passes with those upgraded. Kinda new to this section.
I have been toying with the idea of getting slicks for January myself. Some of the stock turbo guys that have used slicks are, Brian (MostWanted) and Lucas English. Although I wouldn't see a need to run slicks unless your maxing out your stock turbo over 400whp.

Ill let ya know how they do when the tracks open here again.
Slicks are easier on drivetrain parts than street tires or drag radials. Lucas used slicks exactly once last season and that was the 10.822...and I mean once.
They weigh less which is a win in 2 different ways. Less rotational mass and overall vehicle weight are both big pluses. For instance an average car on 18x9s will have a wheel weight of 20 (on a good day) or possibly less, and a tire weight of 28-29 lbs (depending on size). You can get Motegis or Centerlines like mine that weigh 10.5-11 lbs per wheel and tires that are 18-20. My current slick combo weighs 29 for wheel and tire. Compare this to my 18x9.5s (which are admittedly WAY HEAVY) of 31lbs and tire weight of 29.7. Bolt my slicks on and an easy 125 lbs is off the car and thats on a car that already only weighs 3250 with me in it.
Most wanted used M&H 235-60-15 I believe which are DOT tires not slicks. We used those on a customer 1G DSM and ran a 10.0@142 on them so they definitely work.
The reduction in wheelhop and shock to the drivetrain makes slicks very worthwhile. The options for little brakes arent as limited as they used to be so budget brakes and 15's for dragracing are more doable these days.

Yes, I used DOTS and also slicks this year. Slicks are the way to go and are alot easier on drivetrain parts. STAY AWAY from drag radials. Slicks aren't that expensive and will net low 1.4 60's compared to low 1.6's on street tires. Obviously weight, power, and driver skill are important factors.

As far as I know there are no slicks that fit those sizes. You need to get at least the dsm smaller brakes and run 15" wheels. The seemingly perfect combo is the moteki or volk 15x6.5 and a 24" slick. Just my opinion...
There are slicks that will fit, but they're both motorcycle slicks.
As I said, there are no proper slicks that fit. You wanna run a tire rated for 500#?, go ahead, but I am not going to promote it. If you can't afford to do it right, then wait until you can. M/T has already discussed this issue numerous times. They build certain tires for certain applications for a reason.
