Max is correct. R/T doesn't count towards your 1/4 timeslip. R/T counts only in bracket racing w/ a handicap system in favor for the slower car.

As for clutch, the lancer shares the same manual tranny as the 1.8L mirage.

the tranny code is : F5M42
1) 3.583
2) 1.947
3) 1.379
4) 1.030
5) 0.767
FINAL: 3.722

It's also the same as the 3g 'clipse with the 4g64, but their tranny has a starter mounted on it, unlike the 1.8 and 2.0 with the starter on the motor.

Just remember that everytime you run the 1/4 there will always be someone slower then you. I was there..ran my fastest time so far that night. At least the drags were empty so not many saw you be so slow.

Guys, it's not the car it's the driver. I owned a 2000 KIA Sephia that ran 16.4 with just and intake and removing a little interior. The KIA has less torque and higher gears than the Lancer. Are you guys running manuals or automatics? I have an RMR intake I know from my past experience that my Lancer will run low, low 16's if not high 15's with all the interior. If I remove some of the interior I will be in the 15's easy. Lower the tire pressure for better grip if you running stock or aftermarket tires. So, don't blame it on the car before you take a look at your own skills. I do have time slips to back all this up.

how fast is your vegawagon?? I agree that the driver is a huge part. but i don't know if intake, removing interior and lowering tire pressure should drop close to 2 seconds. hmm, wish we had a race track besides bandimere i could trap at

Ways to drop 2 sec - NOS, TC, or make your car not street legal by chopping the whole front off and fabricate a new engine bay.

kNOCKING OFF TWO SECONDS

I know I can knock off two seconds. The Lancer is already two seconds faster 0-60 than the KIA was and a whole second in the 1/4 mile. I do know there is a point where big horsepower is need to shave time on the track, but it's not need to when running high, high 14's and above. My Vega is getting a 350 stuffed in it at the moment.

I bought the car because it was cheap and looked kinda cool not because I thought it was fast. Now I am begining to think it was overpriced.
My boyfriend has a gtech meter and we tested my 1/4 mile time with four people in my car and I don't remember exactly what it was but it was 18.something. The car was definitely overpriced. I paid $18,730 for mine. They wouldn't give me any type of deal at all.

I paid $12,900 for mine.

And if you want it to go faster, buy a turbo! That will always help. Put some new engine pieces. Throttle body, exhaust, intake, cat, lsd, pistons, and all those things, you will have a pretty quick Lancer. You should feel proud of having a quick Lancer, when all that is done.

Four people in the car and you're complaining about 1/4 times? Think about how much weight those extra three people added.

I've said it in other threads, but it's worth repeating. The driver has a lot to do with it. I've had to get on the breaks to not rear-end an SVT Cobra when he shifted from 1st. I've lost track of the number of Hondas who've sat at a light revving on me and when the light changed I was all the way across the intersection before they could get their car completely into the intersection.

Find a nice quiet place to practice your launches. No this car isn't a drag racer, but it's got pretty good low-end torque. I can run to 30 before hitting red-line in 1st and 2nd still pulls enough torque to chirp the tires. I'm not saying that I'm a great driver, but I must be doing something right.

Around here it seems like most of the Honda owners think that lowering their car and putting on an obnoxiously loud exhaust turns it into a super street racer.

16.4 on kia? sounds fishy? did you knock off r/t?

16.4 sec, you should be cracking between 140-150 HP.

Another thing that has not been mentioned is altitude. The higher the altitude, the slower the times. We have one of the fastest tracks in the country here in Houston because it is pretty much at sea level. But, then we have this horrible humidity which screws you up regardless. If you know your altitude and the DA on the day you ran then there are calculators all over the net which will tell you what you would have ran in normal weather at sea level. Granted, this is by no means a true indication but it will at least help you determine just how far you are from your goal.
