EVO IX MR's are fast...
Well I haven't been to the drag strip in a while, but i'm planning to make a return soon. I found out something interesting about the last time i went to the track though. my last time at the track i ran a 12.82 @ 107.41mph with a 1.86 60'. I couldn't hook very well because of the cold track, inability to avoid the water box, and overinflated tires.
it turns out i was fighting another gremlin at the time that i knew nothing about. the car had a boost leak. I remember thinking at the time that the car might have a boost leak because my gague was reading low, but after hitting 12's i figured there's no way i would have run that fast with a boost leak. well i was wrong. while doing some recent maintenance work on my car, it was discovered that the lower part of my upper IC pipe is bent pretty bad and leaking. The accident that it was damaged in happened long before i ever went to the track and i guess when the car was repaired, they missed that pipe. so that means i was running 12's with a boost leak and a bad 60'.
The only mods at the time that i ran, are the same mods that are on the car now. these were an HKS carbon Ti catback, dirty K&N drop in filter, no tune, stock clutch with 60k miles on it, cold/wet/overinflated Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires. That was the first and last time i ran anything but RT-615's.
here's a link to my original post with the slips from the last time: New times for my IX MR
i have a new pipe on the way, and will remember to let some air out of the tires this time haha. Can't wait to see what a basically stock EVO IX can do with a good launch and no boost leak. With a better launch the last time i would have been in the 12.6 range with a basically stock car and a boost leak! i think that's pretty damn good. anyway, i'll post slips next time i go back. car's got 124k miles on it now. should be interesting lol

the throttle body is fine from what i can tell. my boost leak didn't come from modding, it came from a little mishap where my IC pipe got bent. i dunno if i'd even call my car lightly modded though. it's just got a catback lol

yeah, i know that, but i had a boost leak check done and the throttle body seems to be okay. i won't know for sure until i fix that other leak. if they are leaking though, i'll just replace the seals and be good to go.

replacing the shaft seals isn't too bad, and especially worth it to do on your own. disconnect the uicp, the wires going into the tb, and then take the tb out. then remove the (wow i'm forgetting what it's called lol) but cylinder looking piece that goes through it and then you can get at the seals. search for a write up about that because there is a good one that i read.
