Trying again for a 9 sec pass but something broke :(
Trying again for a 9 sec pass but something broke :(
Well after running 10.083 last week i wanted to go back out and get that 9 sec slip after changing nothing on the car just the attitude of leaving a bit harder.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_--AejWmzQ
Well that track prep was a lot diff than last week........for the worse
Had to adjust the pressures down in the Hoosier's to about 14 F / 16 R and still had a bit of wheel spin in first which killed the 60' and bogged the car on the 1-2 shift slightly falling out of 38psi of boost
And on the best run of the day through 3rd gear................i banged 4th and then it just fell flat on it's face
Really thought something in the motor let loose but alas no smoke from behind me and no trail of oil
Didn't hear any sort of pop to lead me to believe it was an i/c pipe blowing off so i was glad to see this:

Easy fix but i'm now contemplating swapping to another turbo as we have a customer that wants my 35r as his 30r is toast.
However i'm up in the air about now making a few more changes to the turbo, fmic, and also the i/c piping.
I run an AMS street i/c and have logged IAT's in the heat of the Sac summer at the top of 4th at over 160*
so maybe a change is due for that as well and if so then i think we'll fab up some new piping to match.
What do you all think?

Damn bro, Did you have a big backfire, or does your engine move around alot?
It does not look like that bung was welded on with any filler rod, but I still would not think it would break like that from just boost.

I also run upgraded motor mounts (at least 3 of them) so i don't think it was moving much.
Ya it was just fusion welded no rod as i honestly never expected anything like that to happen but i was wrong.........just very relieved it didn't damage the hard brake lines

Sorry for your misfortune on the pass, but at least it's a cheap fix!!
As for the ic question,,,, I have logged BIG increases in ait's with the ams street core. Frankly, I wouldn't use that core on anything more than a stock turbo. Both ETS and/or Buschur cores are what you are looking for.... I've seen both keep ait increase below 3 deg's on the dyno and DROP on 1-3 pulls. Shop around for used cores on evom and let the price decide which product you decide to go with.
Good luck on your project, I know you want it so bad you can taste it!
all that money in your car and your still running c-clamps? lol. good look with your 9 second pass man, she deff has it in her
nice vid btw, car sounds really good

if you swap out turbos will you be going bigger?
i think you should stay on the 35r and go 9's and then go bigger if so.
either way, car moves and im sorry to see something broke good thing
it was an easy fix though.

Thanks for the support guys i'm def not the quickest nor fastest but just trying to accomplish the personal goals i've set forth and it's been to get this damn thing in the 9's on the stock head and small turbine sided 35r.........sooo close lol!
Aside from that i really wanted a car i could compete w/ in the sactioned drag events out here (as few as they may be) but i also want to say i have a 9sec Evo
As for the i/c if all goes as planned i'll be going slightly bigger to a 6262 mainly for the sake of the newer technology billet comp wheel but also because i have the chance to upgrade for cheap and then will address the I/C.
We fab our own I/C's at the shop so that won't be a problem.
And i know i have people always commenting on running t-bolt clamps but honestly it's our experience that we have better luck w/ the clamps you see on the car. That was the 1st time in a LONG time for any of the pipes to blow off and all are the same style clamps everywhere.......has held up to 40psi until now lol.
