Hoosier 245/45-17 drag radials

Im planning on picking up a set of these in a week or so, has anyone driven these on the street? Im not going to be daily driving on them obviously, just heading to the occasional meet with them or driving to the track with them on, getting some runs in, then driving back.

Im still considering them versus Falken Azenis (which Ive always heard yield great 60's) as well as a few others. I am pretty set on the Hoosiers though.

edit - I just read about one fellow with a 1G auto who pulled a 1.49 60 ft on the Hoosiers, he said he drove everywhere on them for a whole summer, to meets, to the track, to the food store even lol. Anyone wanna share any experiences with them?

The d-radials have super soft sidewalls to deflect under acceleration. This makes them quite poor handling around corners and prone to puncture by things that a tire would normally be ok running over. Zero traction in wet also. Really best to have two sets or trailer the car.

id say it very possible to go here and there with them on, but you prob dont want to push your luck with such a nice set of tires though.

Yea thats mainly what Im concerned about is them picking up everything and anything and turning around corners with them, and I definitely wasnt gonna be going out with them in the rain

What about running normal tire pressures in them for street driving, like 35-38psi??

I do have a regular set of continental dws's that I daily drive on.

We have a customer that has them and has driven to and from the shop to his home which is about 50 miles each way or 1hr in Bay Area traffic w/o any issues but i specifically told him to be aware that he could lose a $200 tire fairly easily!

Only way i see it worth while is to go to and from the drag strip everything else just isn't worth it to me ie. meets, movies, grocery, etc

I've driven on almost every single DR available even the MT's which are quite similar to the Hoosiers on my 03 Cobra but it was risky in more ways than just dodging debris

Mine have quite some wear on them. I have driven on them to and from the track twice(110 miles to and from). No issues at all. I do take corners lighter than I normally do. But Ill tell you they wear way faster than other dr's.

I was planning to do the Hoosier Drag radials also, have heard great things about them. I saw a few people on here that is cutting real good 60fts. I changed my mind and going with the Old RX7 wheels with the Hoosier QTPs.

I wanted to do the rx7/qtp combo too but I dont wanna mess with spacers and extended studs.

xcelr8 how many miles total do you think youve put on your hoosiers and how much do you think theyve worn down over time?

they wear fairly quick but like I said I do drive on them at times. Id say I prolly have 600miles on them give or take. I think you could get 1500-2500miles on a set. I sent you a pm if you dont mind checking it out.

2500 on a set of $800-900 tires. I'll pass on the street driving and use them for what they are made for...hauling *** from a stand still in a straight line.

For those of you who have run these on the street for driving around, what kind of pressure are you running?

Track pressures. 25-28 seems to be the magic number.
