Correction: I thought the RS model had a regular 4g63 w/o turbo, instead it's a 4g64 just like the spyder.

No way I'm saying that a mirage can beat a GS-T or GSX, unless slipping clutch and misshift twice.

A 1.5L mirage coupe will not beat a GS/RS model, only the 1.8L. Those 1.8L are becoming so rare, even I have a hard time finding parts in salvage yard and way overinflated. If you look at the #'s game, that's not all the equation. It's a matter of powerband.

A stock 1.8 vs a stock GS/RS is a driver's race in either slushbox or manual.

Actually in 1994 the GS Eclipse came in 2 models.

Eclipse GS Turbo Hatchback
Base Number of Cylinders: 4
Base Engine Size: 2 liters
Base Engine Type: Inline 4
Horsepower: 195hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 203ft-lbs. @ 3000 rpm
Drive Type: FWD

Eclipse GS 1.8 Non-Turbo
Base Number of Cylinders: 4
Base Engine Size: 1.8 liters
Base Engine Type: Inline 4
Horsepower: 92hp @ 5000 rpm
Torque: 105ft-lbs. @ 3500 rpm
Drive Type: FWD

If it is non-turbo u will crush him...if it is a turbo...u dont have a chance.

Not taking any offense by you, NY.

GST threw in the 2g info, and I forgot the original post was about the 1g. Thanks for reminding me.

Find out what kind of time he is running at the track. I've run my lancer at the track and it ran a 17.3 .
Then I put in a injen cold air intake. It took me down to a 17.0 .
With your flowmaster exhaust and shifting properly you should run a 16.8 or 16.9 .
But find out what he runs
Later

good and bad news.

okay i havent raced the guy i have been telling you guys about.. here is the good news a week ago i was behind a white eclipse gs with exhaust as far as i could see and possibly a intake from the sound i was behind him.. light turns green he halls *** squealign like a lil ho lol. and i had just enuf room to get between him and the car beside him.. wnet right through i shift into second smoothly and i hear this god awful sound come form his car sounded like he ripped seocnd gear outa of his car anyways left him in the dust he wouldnt even look or talk to me at the next light.

and im screwed.. my friend with the eclipse gs has managed to get mommy and daddy to buy him a stage 2 turbo kit and unfortunately will be installed in a week im hopeing to catch him b4 he does the install if he does im cooked and done for.

Thanks for the support everyone
Ryan

p.s. if i do hopefully this is what he will be seeing!!!!

I saw a couple Lansers run here in Vegas and they were pulling the same times you were. Reaction time does not have any affect on your 17.1. That just tells you the time between the first yellow light until the front tires roll past the pre-staged and staged laser. This is why you can leave on the third yellow and still not red light. The tires must have completely left the staging area.

Sportsman Tree: Three Yellow lights come down the tree individually, then green for a total of .500 sec. A perfect light is .500

Pro Tree: Three yellow flash at the same time, then green for a total of .400 sec. Perfect light of .400 sec.

Your .997 sec means that your front tires were still on the staging lasers for .497 seconds after the green. But this has no affect on ET. The reaction time could be 3.5 seconds and you still would have run a 17.1.

I know a lot of racers who try to make fun of the slower cars by waiting on the line for 4 seconds before they launch. RT of 4.500, but they still have an ET of 13.5 or something like that.

Gotcha

Ahh I see, thanks for the info. I shift at 5900 just before the redline. Should I move it down to 5500 or keep it where it is at? Im going again Wednesday night to see if i can get a better time.

Greby Exhaust and Short Ram intake. I have looked at the specs his car is running estimated around 160 hp. if he even gets all that to the wheel.
to make a long story short.
Do i have a chance in hell at beating him?
If so anyone have any tips or things i can try b4 the day comes when or if i race him?

Thanks for any info.
Your estimation is totally off... plz don't estimate cars if you don't want to lose face in the forums

And to reply to your original question, given that both drivers are similar in driving skill the Eclipse will come out victorious.

GL in whatever mods you do but please don't waste too much $$$.
