Well finally after a while working on the clutch and diff on the evo, had a chance to try the car at Import Face-Off. Well I must say it was an extreme disappointment on the car.
The first run, at 24psi low boost setting, the car ran a 12.33@117
! I'am no tuner so I'am going with what has been done to the car previously. My 2-step wasnt working so I feather it to launch...ofcourse I bogged down. The car shifted perfectly, but it felt as if the clutch was slipping. No real power down the strip. I"m using Hankook Evo V12's tires, do you really think I could have been spinning down the track? I know I really need some drag radials/QTPs etc...

So into the second run, I decided to upload the hi-boost setting and see if I could do something with the 2-step. Again, I'm no tuner so I really dont know the AEM software, but I did see that my 2-step setting was set as "ALWAYS OFF" switch. So I changed the setting and viola, it worked. So here we go again and line up. Launched a lot better but still bogged down. Power felt better (as expected) but the car started to back-fire as you can see from the first shift. Car still felt good on the mid RPM range...it ran a 12.0@127. When I got to the pits, the car wouldnt idle at all, this is after I just installed a new IAC motor! Well found out it was the TB coupler came undone.

So I was a little exited thinking maybe it will be better now that took care of the coupler...didnt have the laptop to raise the 2-step (set at 5,800). So car bogged again (expected), but again it ran very poorly as you can see sputtering all over the run. A 12.7@110

Went back to the pits, thinking well the spark plugs are toast. Decided to go home in defeat (even though I won all 3 races
). After a couple of minutes went to start the car, it gave me a little click and BAMMM nothing. No crankie. I couldnt believe the battery could be dead. The car had started plenty of times all day long without any hesitation. Well after probing around I could only assume a broken post connection internally was the problem. Mind I have one of those mini-batteries. The + wire has been putting undo stress on the stud since the wire twists the post, putting extra "torque" pressure. It finally gave up to the point the car was running with out charging the battery.
Now my question, could this electrical situation given me this horrible spark, sputtering and low power output?
Are this batteries worth it or should I go trunk mounted Optima?

i'm so confused?? if you do in fact have 704hp, judging by your runs your down like 300 hp and if you did'nt have a lap top how did you turn on the 2-step and how did you change to your hi-boost map? and what rpm were you shifting at? when was the last time you logged a run? you should see whoever tuned it last to check it out cause something aint right, and i don't think it was your battery? anyways g/l i would like to see some clean runs, nice car

I had the laptop, but not on the last run. Boost was steady at 34psi on the last run. The reason why I said it was the battery is since the CDI box is directly connected to the battery. I havent ran the car after the new battery. Hope to do it tomorrow.

What!!??? Am I the only one that see's the 127mph at 12.0?? the horse power didn't go anywhere.
Get a set of slicks and go to it. With that kind of power you should be running them anyway if you’re that conserned about getting a good slip.
Yes fine tuning the 2 step and getting your launch right is something you have to do, but the MPH is there you just have to work on your 60ft times…what were they BTW??
judging by your trap speed, seems like your motor is healthy (no tuner here either). I would say raise your 2-step, work on that launch, get some real tires to grip and help that 60ft time, and your off. get to it and let us know how it turns out!

It's obvious you need to work on your 60 fts...get some meaty tires on this bad boy!! Since I've owned my car my 2 step has been no lower then 6k even on the stock turbo. I cut 1.6X 60 ft on street tires all the time. Also post a break down of your time slip & we can tell you other areas you may need to improve. 127mph trap is low 11s -high 10s like someone else said.

I know about the tires, no doubt there. Since i couldnt do a single clean pass (sputtering, bog) really the time slip is of no help. That second pass was the best but if you see or hear closely youll notice by half point RPM dropping and slow rise of engine speed after, thats when the TB coupler came undone.
Again the 2-step is set up at 5800RPM and shifting at 8200RPM. Best 60ft (if you can call it that) was 1.90 with bog of course. Previous best 60ft on my previous Evo w/Nankang tires was 1.60

Just came across your thread today and from my own personal findings having low voltage will cause issues with CDI ignitions.
Had it happen on a couple of my cars before...bottle heaters bring batterys down quick between rounds without using the generator.
Looks like you already know what needs to be done to improve your times
just figured I'd share on the ignition issue.

Bump up your two step. I launch at 6200rpm. I remember a thread I think recommending 6500rpm. If you get spin then turn it down a little or don't ride the 2 step as long.
Make sure that you have the tire pressure down to 20psi and make sure to stage first so you can watch the lights and time your 2-step start.
Are you using NTLS?
CDI's definitely do not like low battery voltage as well.
Let me know next time you are going out to the strip. Not to many people in NTEC seem to go drag racing...

i went ahead the easiest way out and replaced the mini-batt with a new one.
