How does the EVO drivetrain do with drag racing?
Sup guys. I sold my 10 sec. RX7 to buy the EVO. I wanted something fast that I could also put my son in. I still want to drag race too. Wanted to know how your drivetrains are holding up to 6k launches. I had the Kazz on my RX7. Is this something I should consider on the EVO?
Thanks,
Ernie
Thanks,

hey ernie, good choice the ,evo over a 7. the weak part of the evo is the clutch, not enough clamping force and the fly wheel is to thin.it wont hold over a 12.5 second run. im working with Centerforce clutch. ive got a prototype DFX clutch in there now that does 4 wheel smoke shows ,no proplem. ive got over 50 runs on this clutch.never lost a race. ive had many rides in my 41years, never a ride like this evo.my 350z just sits in the garage
My Evo has an Exedy in it amd it with stands some abuse... Havent counted how many burn-outs though.. From friends the only thing I have heard about having problems is the syncros, but that could just be bad shifting...
Ernie, I watched you in a couple of videos from nopistons so I know you can drive. That is usually the biggest problem with Evos at the dragstrip. My suggestions would be a twin-disk (maybe a Cusco carbon/carbon - designed to slip a little) clutch and make preparations to upgrade or replace your synchros (a little weak) and upgrade the diff when it's available. Good luck - I hope to see more videos...

With real power and a strong clutch you can break the front diff and there are no places to get replacement parts..you get to buy the whole T-case at $2.2K+ install. without a hookup.

Ernie,
Congrats on the purchase
I made the same decision, except I chose the STi. My daughter fits much better in the STi than in the Supra.
Did you make it to Cecil last night? I went, but it was so crowded I just turned around and went home.
I'd like to check the Evo out some time.

u want 1/4 mile? get a 510 with a 3 rotor...forget these evos and launching them...everyone assumes because they are 4wd they can launch ...nope the diff doesnt hold up and no after market supplier deemed us worthy enough to consider making us some real parts..I just grenaded my diff to find out i have to replace it with the same ****ty stock unit ( I have 400 miles on my modded car 3500 total)...stick with fron engine rwd
