No more stock turbo - now testing the 20G!
Honestly I think there should be more Evo X MR's in the 11's, especially if you keep your turbo setup on the responsive side relative to engine displacement to counter the fixed 5000 RPM stationary limiter that builds ZERO boost.
I have some updates on my own 2011 Evo X MR: I'm still running stock clutch packs here but I have my boost curve tapering in the torque hit from 3000-4000 rpm's and trying my best to keep those clutch packs from seeing any slip in Super Sport mode.
Last fall on a cool high pressure boost night I ran the stock turbo to 11.965 @ 113.82 which has pretty good but the stocker was tapping out on the top end with the boost taper. There may have been a bit more in it with the cams but I got too impatient. After doing some maintenance in my engine bay I decided to try the 20G compressor wheel and housing swap for a low buck power upgrade to get me closer to the class limits in NARRA Time Trials TT3 class.
According to before and after Virtual Dyno comparisons there is a good 30-40 whp bump with the 20G compressor wheel upgrade thanks to it allowing an extra 3-4 psi on the top end. Spool is still reasonable as well since it hits 20 psi in 4th by 2900 versus 2800 using the stock turbo. If you don't mind the labor I feel the 20G compressor upgrade is a really good value for the gains. With the stock turbo off the car for any reason it's a no brainer to spend around $200 on this 20G Upgrade. If you have to pay someone to install the turbo or dread tearing into it yourself I would suggest moving to an FP Green or larger to make the pain worth the effort though.
I made these drag passes on a hot and humid night where there was a low pressure front moving in so compared to a couple nights earlier where the car felt crazy fast it makes sense that most people were down one or two tenths and mph. My car is by no means setup for drag racing but I adjusted my Aeromotions wing to zero angle of attack and still I managed a 1.715 short time after dropping my air pressures in the Hankook R-S3 tires to 30 psi instead of my regular 36 psi cold.
60': 1.715
1/8: 7.548 @ 90.51
1/4: 11.758 @ 116.24
60': 1.756
1/8: .622 @ 91.20
1/4: 11.804 @ 117.09
I have some Cosworth MX-1 cams coming that should get me to the 119-120 mph trap speed range and will hopefully be enough power for 11.5's, just a matter of time!
