STMTuned Evo X(stock turbo)- What EBC?!?!

2013 Evo X GSR
Buschur Bolt On's
STM Tuned @ 27 PSI (Hallman MBC)
Stock Clutch
Full Weight

Having perfect conditions for racing on a Sunday, myself and 05OrangeSS decided to take his stock turbo Evo X to the track. With the season almost over, it was essential to get a baseline to decide on what direction to head over winter and how to achieve the next goal.

The track had phenomenal prep, which was more than the stock clutch could handle. We found this out on the first pass when I lined him up in the groove and the clutch slipped the first three gears netting a 12.8. The next pass we lined him out of the groove, but with a miss of 3rd gear, the pass was shot.

The track was getting ready to close and there was only time for one more. He had no choice but to make this one count. I again lined him up outside the groove. I had noticed the car pulled left on the last pass so I told him to use snow mode to keep the center diff clamped together knowing the same thing would happen again.

Did it work? Just watch this quick video and find out!

Can you explain how keeping it in snow mode helped?

The answer isn't short.

In tarmac mode, when there's steering input, the center diff releases causing any wheel with no traction to receive a lot more power then it should.

Since the track was so sticky that he couldnt launch in the groove, his right side tires had some stick, well the left tires had no stick at all. This causes the car to pull left towards the wall. If he was in tarmac and went to correct, the diff would open causing excess wheel spin, which is what happened on run 2.

In snow mode, the clamping pressure isn't as high, but it keeps the diff the clamping pressure held together during the first couple seconds of steering. This helped to keep the power to the tires with grip well fighting the leftward pull.

in a perfect world where youre in the groove, and the cars going straight, tarmac is the mode to use. But if you have to make steering adjustments the first hundred feet when traction is at high demand, snow mode is where its at.

Good work. track weather is here. Keep plugging away at it. Hopefully your stock clutch holds up long enough to accomplish your goal.

No need to do anymore passes. We went to just establish a baseline to see how much work needs to be done next year.

Let the games begin.

Haha yeah I'm done racing the car at the track for the rest of this year. Clutch won't take much more and I need the stock motor healthy enough to possibly do some more records haha

How do you know the clutch can't take much more? Is it slipping? Just curious what the signs are.
