Track/Street tires

My goal is to drive to the track, run a 9.6-9.8 1/4 mile, then drive the car back home. Then when I'm home, leave the tires on as my DD/summer tire. I'm committed to keeping with my stock look theme. The car is completely stock on the outside with oem Enkei's and full interior. So going to FD wheels or a wider wheel is out of the question. Has to be able to fit the stock Enkei's. What tire will meet my needs?

I'd say the most important questions are 1. do you want to legitimately be able to drive in the rain at highway speeds, and 2. how many miles do you need to get form tires you are paying 200/ea for?

It doesn't rain much in San Diego so I'm not really worried about that. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Would be nice but not a major selling point to me, the car won't be my DD for long. I put about 6,000 miles on my car per year so I'd like them to at least last for a couple years if that's reasonable. I've had my car for 6 years and only put a little over 40,000 miles on it. So I don't drive it much really.

I would like to get the R888's but Tire Rack only has them in 245/40/17, I kinda wanted a set with a 45 sidewall so I can keep RPM's down when I drag it.

245/45/17 is ideal but 255/40/17 will work.

R888's are lapping tires... The sidewall is too stiff for drag racing. I just purcahsed a set of M&H Drag radials from Buschur that fit the stock wheels nicely. I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

What kind of mileage could I expect to get out of them? The only reason I havent gone with a drag radial yet is the aggresiveness of the compound. Would you say these are street worthy? Can I expect them to last a couple years based on my driving habits mentioned above?

When you go to the track what do you set the tire pressure to with these tires? Do they need to be low like slicks, in the 12-16 psi range?

Great. Sounds like we have a winner. How many street miles can I hope to get out of them driving slow and not beating on the car?

but why would you want to daily drive on those tires? why not just get another set of stock enkeis and use the slicks when you need them! Theyll last you over 4 years easy! Last set i had where m/t 26x7-17 motorcycle slicks, went a best of 9.63 on those tires and they lasted over 6 years on a few different evos! but dint daily drive them, just use them to drive to car meets, street races,
Track, etc...

That was my goal. I want tires that will get me into the 9s while still being able to daily them. They don't even have to be a drag radial. Just a good street tire that I can take to the track 1-2 per year. I'm not trying to break records or anything but I only have one set of wheels.

I will look into what you say. Do people here usually use the OEM Enkei's and FD wheels for the track? Looks like I'm buying a new set of wheels too.
