just to add a little bit of closure to this post. We found out what lead to the accident. Looks like cylinder 1 got hot and put a hole in the head. (Thinking possible clogged injector)
and as far as what is next.. I picked up an 03 Evo 8 shell with 81k miles on it for a decent price. And the rebuild has already began. Swapping over everything from the silver car to the new shell.
