Shifting and Trap speeds....
Been wondering a few things while drag racing....
OK, so I guess a more agressive launch will yeild higher traps and I know better 1/4 times.
So I guess what I am saying is that a real agressive launch and a 5 second or faster 330 foot time will yelid higher traps or are traps goning to be the same and only the 1/4 time can change with shifting (to a point).
Just wondering cuz I am racing with a stock clitch, pretty docil launch at 5000 rpms, slip till moving, then bang it, shift at 7500, do a slow 330 shift @ 5.5 seconds. I do this cuz my car does not like 1-2 shifts that much , also the stock clutch is simply not holding the power as well. Not that it slips but ti does protest somewhat. Even If I bang it from a roll, it does stink a little after wards.
Also do you thing a better clutch and 6000 RPM launch and a quicker 330 foot time will yeild a better trap?
Again, minor launch with 1.8 60 foots, shifting at 7500, slow 1-2 shift, what do I have to do to get the traps up?

trap speed usually equals hp. to bring up your trap speed you need more power (or traction if your making too much hp). And since traction isnt a problem for the evo's I would say you need more hp to get what you want. In my z06 I could run a 11.40 or a 12.20 and it would always have the same 121mph trap speed no matter what I did. With a bad launch, good launch, Et streets, or goodyear f1's my trap would never change. This has always proven true in the cars that I have had. A couple weeks ago I ran my wifes evo, and with a bog on the launch It ran a 12.80 @ 111.8mph and with a good launch it would run a 12.3 @ 112mph, so not a bid difference in trap speed.

I was at the track last night. Car fully stock (first time at the track with this car only raced 4 times, with 1500 miles on it.) I could only get a 2.0 60', but my highest trap is 102. My higher traps were at lower shifts since the power band is so weak up high. I'm goina try a lower shift point and hopefully let the torque pull me through the powerband
