13 sec..evo VIII
13 sec..evo VIII
i'm going to race with weekend . i'll be my first time with my EVO VIII. i was wondering after reading so much articles of the car and the results in the 1/4 time. how hard is it to get mid 13's . i'm fairly new at this so i'm nervous. i know that 13's is done by a proffesional . how about a regular joe as myself. and anyone gotten 13's in there stock evo? and is it very diffcult or just have to drive very well. ...??????????
As with any car, it does take some practice. I have been racing for a few years and managed a 13.5 @ 101 my first trip to the track last year with my bone stock EVO. I only marginally improved (13.4 @ 102) during later visits. Others have done it as well.
At some of our local test & tune events I've seen evos put down anywhere from ~14.5 to 12.9 completely stock. A 13.*** pass is completely possible if you have the driving skills needed. Given this is the first time you're going to run the car, you're likely to have times in the low 14 to high 13 margin. Once you get the car a little more dialed in you'll start pushing the low 13s; especially if you mod correctly.

I ran 13.5 @ 100 bone stock with a 2.0 60' The temp was extremely cold and track temp was 30 degrees so the tyres were just spinning off the line. Under normal circumstances you will need to launch the car hard to get mid 13s and you'll have to decide whether you're more comfortable slipping the clutch or dumping it.
i took my evo completely stock to the strip only ran twice firs time the green light shocked the hel* outa me and i reacted as i saw the other guy take off and i did a 14.1 the second time i wasnt quite set but did better and did a 13.7 if i ran more and got use to the setup and where to stop and start at i coulda done a lot better but the guy that lent me his helmit had to split so i couldnt race any more... but takes some practice sliping the clutch is the way i went for take offs i didnt try to dump ( let go of the clutch quickly ) good luck n hae fun
First time at the Drag strip ever with my bone stock EVO or anyother car for that matter I ran a 13.2 at 102MPH. R/T was a 524. This was at MIR and it was like 70 deg. It does not take a professional to run an EVO in the 13's. When you go to the track, try and get some advice from some more experienced people. They can help you out with how to stage and how to react to the tree. Main thig is to have fun and not get discouraged if your not getting the times you expect.

. Seriously, forget about the light and just sit until it goes green. Once it's green then bring your revs up and do your launch. Once the launch becomes 2nd nature to you then you can start to worry about the tree.
Great point UFO and the best time to go is the test and tune nights when everyone is practicing and tuning their cars. Just practice the launch, the tree will come along. Have fun!
