HELP with my launching
HELP with my launching
Here's my issue. I have just broken in my car and decided to go for a joy ride with my cousin today. My cousin drives acura cl type-s 6 spd. which is a fairly a fast car as you guys would probably know. Since it was my first time going nuts in my car, we did a rolling start race. Lancer evo viii and cl type-s 6 spd. were head to head till like 100 mph. See... I used to drive around in honda accord v-6 and have never driven a manual car with such a power. CL type-s is surprisingly quick. I'm sure my experience with my cousin's car was due to my bad shifting. Afterwards, I tried launching. Boi... I can't launch for S#IT!! I've never launched awd cars. So... fill me in with some crazy techniques for launching my evo. I'm guessing if i can launch right and shift better, cl type-s won't stand a chance. Help me out here will ya?
i used to have one of those. i tell u they are pretty fast. on the highway i am pretty sure the evo will loose. past a 100mph forget it the cl will win. v6 260 hp good gear box=freeway monster.
Well of course practice is vital. You should be able to murder a CL-S from a dig. Tach the car up to 5000-5500 rpms and drop the clutch. You can also slip it a little. These cars flat out kill most cars off the line. Alot of people are seeing a 1.8 sec. 60' time in these cars.

This is similar to what I have read over at V6performance.net. There are members with 6 speed accords who say they hang with an Evo from a roll. I own both cars and the Evo destroys the 240 hp accord from any speed. I know the CL has 20 more HP, but similar enough to compare.
Do yourself a favor, save your clutch from launching and get a boost controller, 3" exhaust, intake and some kind of ECU flash. You will dust the CL from any speed. This can be done for under 1K.

I don't get how you guys are losing, I've beaten all hondas from any speed. Even a RSX type-S fully modded with honda reflash#4 didn't stand a chance from a 40mph roll.
My launching technique is 4000 rpm slip, which does surprisingly well. Dropping the clutch always boggs for me even if I launch at high rpms.

Dont slip the clutch on a turbo awd car. Just rev it up and drop the clutch at one time while the rpms are going upward and hit the rpm point you want to launch at. The best way to do this is to set the clutch pedal just below the friction point, then rev up bouncing the rpms between 4k and 5K. When your ready just throttle up more and launch as you pass by 5k rpms. The main key in a turbo AWD car is to spin the tires just enough so you dont bog the car.

What he said Generally I find that the tach will be like this,
-Bounce it between 4-5k
-Floor it(creates more boost than just holding it at 6k)
-when around 5.5-6k RPMS, let foot completely off clutch(Dumping) and dont let off gas.
If you do it correctly, you will wheel spin for about half a second, and the tach will read about 4-5k RPMs after you completely gain grip again. if it doesnt drop down to 4-5k and still the tach is around 6k and up after dumping the clutch let off the gas immediately if you are just practicing. that means the clutch didnt grip and is just slipping which will result in some nasty stuff. That's what I do at least
