The Official Dyno # vs. Track time thread!

So lets try this one and see what happens?

Who's dyno was it and what kind? VS. What did you run? And what is the weight?

Please write yours out like this and I will keep it updated to compare.

To make this more legible, why not define a standard format and list of information then maintain the list in the first post. .. hell, maybe even a spreadsheet in Google docs or something. Would make the information easier to parse than picking through a thread for relevant posts.

A dyno sheet and track slip can be provided for accuracy but the weight there is no telling who will be truthful and who wont.. Good luck with this one EM..

i dont think i would pull a same number as many drag guys here with the same car same conditions.
:)

Svendiesel Jan 11, 2010 03:49 PM

This should be interesting. You always see people all over say "Yea who cares about the dyno numbers, the trap speed will tell us how much power youre making" ...And then it ends there because it seems like no one has the final answer as to how much power a car makes that traps 115 or 120 or 130 lol.

Edit: And in the end...I guess who really cares lol. The 120 car makes more power than the 115 car which both make less power than the 130 car haha. But still, this will be useful to finally make some good comparisons.

The cars are setup much different with different tire sizing and slicks, rims, brakes etc. At 386whp the turbo was touching down on the compressor housing and on its way out. It was replaced at a later time elsewhere.

Since it is known that our dyno was factory calibrated by Mustang Dyno in Ohio and the settings have never been changed from day one there is nothing to discuss.

Accusations of "dyno games" by your commercial screen name will be reported for moderation as the site has no patience for your gamesmanship.

Furthermore STM's thread has run perfectly smooth so far outside of your defamatory comments.

I'm not sure about the weight, our track is closed forever and their scale wasn't working when I was there. These are the weight considerations:

+ power sunroof
+ 175lb driver
-front crash bar
-spare
-jack
15" wheels, dot tires and small front brake setup for clearance
exhaust is lighter but fmic and turbo are heavier than stock
**edit, I fogot that I dyno'd with 18" wheels and raced with the 15"**

You forgot to mention that the 360whp uncorrected at DDP was on a

So is it 334whp or 360whp/402tq? Is 360whp weather corrected WCF?

360 with WCF. 334 uncorrected. If this clears things up awesome.

Good question with an even greater answer. Observe the dynosheet comparison below....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...udynosheet.jpg

As you can see the peak whp/wtq increased significantly, but pay extra attention in the rpm range that matters most 6,300 rpm's and above. The turbo is out of steam and the powerband falls to the point where there is hardly any gains over my previous 37psi tune. I do not have an overlay with my 34psi tune but I would imagine it would look VERY similar. So yes the peak number keeps going up yet the time did not get lower nor did the trapspeed go up because of the powerband. Couple that with the fact I was also fighting a 14mph headwind last time at the track and in retrospect I was running the car with zero gain between my last two trips out. Peak numbers are only a small fraction of the equation gentlemen.

I can't believe I missed this thread.

Also, if you wanted to note next to Mike from AWD's car, his car made 803 on our dyno when it ran those times too. Be a nice comparison if you can squeeze it in.

Is your 684 with correction factor? An excellent run with only 684 WHP{thumbup}

Correction factors are for something, not sure what, but not turbocharged cars. So NO the numbers are NOT corrected.

Did you make any adjustments afterwards in the tune or boost? because its not really possible to trap that much with only 500 dynojet, not knocking on you or anything I think its great but numbers are hard to get around.

xcelr8 Apr 6, 2010 07:15 PM

no adjustment in boost at all. It was a cool night. it was my only pass I made. I made a pass 2 weeks earlier that was 11.38@132.8 with the same boost. All I can think of is I bogged hard off the line which is why my trap was down. The one thing about my car that Im unsure of is the weight. My car is for the track mainly so It doesnt have much in it. At the track its just my drivers seat. Maybe Im closer to 2900lbs with driver i dunno. Not trying to get one over on you guys but my run is on what I was tuned at (32lbs). But if you want to look at it that way Most wanted trapped 133 at 2700lbs on 433whp on dynojet. I have a video but its poor quality at the end and my brother was swearing in it so im not posting it. If you really want it Ill have my wife post the time slip. And then if you still dont believe, Im going to turn up the boost to 36-38lbs and run it again at some point. Ill get good footage when I do.
